I’m stumped
I still need to research cognac...

I'd be interested in where it takes you. I would like to get a nice bottle when winter rolls around here again. That would also mean I would have to get a balloon glass to do it properly. :)

I'm keen on trying a few ports as well, as I have not had one in years.
I've also been considering getting a LBV Port for my 50th and aging it for enjoying on my 60th.

I'll keep ya'll advised in here if/when I actually get to it.

Now, if port is at all like scotch, it doesn't actually age more in the bottle. All the aging has to happen in the barrels pre-bottle.

Think more on the lines of a wine. My understanding is not all port will get better by aging in the bottle but some other can. I need to do a bit of research........or maybe just ask the fine B&B gentleman. :)

I found this on a quick look.
Late Bottle Vintage Ports that are filtered are not meant to be aged. So there is no reason to do so. Unfiltered LBV's generally will start showing their best at around 10+ years of age. Generally, they are not designed to be aged beyond 20 years, with a few exceptions

Good evening everyone (for me at least). Drinks tonight are blue moon, and Knobb Creek Single Barrel Reserve.. It's been a bit of a rough work week. Military guys can sympathize. Preparing for JRTC coming up. Lots of packing, inventories, digging through supplies in the sun etc. I'd like to thank badger and blade and the speakeasy for getting me through the week and giving me motivation in my spare time haha. Anyhow, preparing for Thanksgiving. Having some single soldiers over since they have no family of their own way out here in Hawaii. I've built corn hole boards for some fun. Just wanna contribute and show my gratitude towards the speakeasy. Hope everyone has a fantastic holiday!

I stopped at the local store yesterday and had a convo with one of the reps there that are a bit into cognac, and learned I need to check out a few of the usual suspect brands to read up on their flavor profiles. But, once I decide, I am not looking at nearly as much per bottle as I thought I'd have to spend. That's a plus!

How many bottles are you looking to purchase?

Man o man did I ever tie one on last night!
I can’t remember the last time I did that.
30 years ago or more?

Brutal! Paying for it this morning!

But...I needed that
Sometimes you need a break from reality. And working out and hunting just haven’t cut it these last few weeks. So last night I drank myself blind. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Won’t do that again. BUT
I had a few hours where I was able to forget and I guess that was good. Now it’s back to the real world.
And that’s all I gotta say about that

That is my worry and hesitation. Historically I've not enjoyed many sipping sort of liquors at all. There's more than a 50/50 chance I'll pick up a bottle, it'll burn and not be nearly as enjoyable as the sample I had at pipe club, and it'll sit on the shelf for 10-15 years till I finally manage to give it away, or get sick of looking at it and toss it. lol

I had a Scotch once that was so enjoyable; no burn at all. Just great for sippin.
Glenlivet 12 year. So inexpensive that I was hesitant but glad I did try it. It sat on the shelf for only a few days.
I hope you get lucky like I did.

I’m stumped
I was out on a work Christmas lunch/drinks, arvo/evening with business associates.
Now I know it's early but there are many visitors coming for us leading up to Christmas, it just gets so busy.

I got to try a few whisky's on my to try list and a few more. Then there was wine, beer and a old fashioned. hiccup.....

To start the whisky run was Ardbeg 10, I had tried to have a beer and resist but resistance was futile. With all the talk of the Ardbegs smoke, I wanted to try one at a bar before buying a bottle. Yum me likey. I found it smooth and the smoke not at all too much.
That was followed with a Laphroaig 10 Year Old, which I enjoyed as well.
Eyeing up the top shelf a Bruichladdich Classic Laddie came my way. Nice drop very smooth but not a peaty after the other two. I think I need to revisit this one again on another day with fresh taste buds.
I then had to revisit the Ardbeg 10.....just to be sure I liked it you know. :)
The smoke of malt was smelt by my fellow diners, none of which who would join me in a dram. :(

We finished up after our late lunch and moved onto a roof top bar as it was a nice night. Another Laphroaig 10, just to be sure.
Then I spotted a Japanese whiskey, Hakushu 12, it would be wrong not to.........yep you guessed it, in the name of research, I had one and another one to back it up.....just to be sure.

A good night out and I got to try some nice whisky, a bit jaded the next day but not too bad all things considered.
It's been some years since I drunk like that, as I'm drink for taste not effect now.

Hope everyone enjoys their pre Christmas drinks. I know I did.

Bigfoot & Bagel aficionado.
Wow, it sounds like you had a great time, Chris! If you haven't tried it already, checkout some Lagavulin 16 if you get the chance at one of the wine & dines you go to. It's my new favorite of all the scotch and whiskeys I've tried.

Y’all prolly didn’t notice but I’ve been pretty much missing for the better part of a month. But for the most part I am back.
Wife lost partial vision left eye and it was spreading to her right eye and she was having massive headaches and high blood pressure. Long story short she had a Pituitary Tumor and she had it removed. We spent more or less 3 weeks in Houston and she’s recovering here at home now.
Man I hate washing clothes!!

And boy oh boy does it ever feel good to be home. I am sitting here enjoying several beers!

I hope y’all behaved while I was gone!

WB! It's been pretty mellow in here. I did manage to pick up some Remy Martin VSOP finally. I got lucky and it's just like the one I sampled and liked, so I have a nice sipping drink now at home available when the mood strikes. :)

Damn close call @martym, I'm glad to hear you're all back home and closer to easy family access through the New Year? Ours has been a 'minor' fracturing of L3 on my SWMBO and it's pretty obvious we're a tripod with only two legs and lucky happenstance before it all started going wonky to be leaning toward each other and a 'nice wall which luckily was standing nearby.' After a full two weeks I finally got the PCP to send referral to my anesthesiologist (pain Mgmnt specialist) and an offer to see her after Christmas Day. So now we hang on with less than sufficient opioids and nearly 24/7 use of a TENS unit to keep her (relatively) relaxed and comforted. Just damn, medical science can be so wonderful - and medical practice so heartless depending on the day / time / and dr's whim.

Your lack of presence was noticed, Marty.
Good to hear it was caught in time. Hope your wife's vision is returning.
The older I get the more I appreciate returning home. Washing is no fun but washing while away sucks.

Being too busy to misbehave......that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :)
I relocated my old fridge into the garage today and have reloaded my beer back into it. Just in time for a kiwi summer Christmas.
I still have some Beefeater gin left, so a ice cold G&T or two over the holidays sounds in order.
