Thayer's Witch Hazel Question

So, I just got back from a nearby health foods store where I picked up a bottle of Thayer's Witch Hazel. I got the Lavender Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera that reads "Alcohol-Free Toner" on the label instead of Astringent. When I asked which one would be more suited for being used primarily as an after-shave, one of the ladies who works at the store said "probably one of the ones with the "moisturizing" feature listed on the bottle". So, it was either Lavender, Cucumber or one other scent I forget.

Is what she said true, and did I choose the right kind?

My understanding is that they are all pretty good, but the ones without the alcohol are better as an aftershave. The ones labeled astringent are used primarily for cleaning the face so as to avoid acne and the likes. B&B Wiki has a section on the aftershaves and toners I believe that may answer your question in more depth.

There is no right or wrong - it is whatever you like better and/or whatever works better for your skin type. Even the astringent Thayer's has less alcohol (12%) than standard WH (14%). Personally, I like the astringent for the same reason I usually prefer ASL to ASB, because my skin tends to be on the oily side of neutral. On the other hand, if you have dry skin, you would probably feel exactly the opposite.

The upshot is that you can't go wrong with whichever one you chose. If you like it, then it is right for you.

Enjoy!
