What's new

Thanks to B&B, finally moved to badger...WOW!

Hi All...first up, I'm a newbie here, please be nice :)

I've been a long time user of canned goo, initially just lathered with hands and later on with a synthetic brush...I thought it gave me reasonable shaves (for the most part), except when it came to the neck where my beard is more like gravel than stubble.

Having lived in the Middle East, boar brushes aren't widely available there due to religious and cultural reasons. So the synthetic Gilette was my go-to, which I got for US$5 from a supermarket.

Last week while browsing around a shaving store, I stumbled across an Omega 6218 Pure Badger for AU$79...while a steep price to swallow, I bought it to try after reading B&B a few times...and all I can say is WOW! What a revelation! Alongside I also got some Windsor (Doward) soap (it's a locally made Australian soap), and the 2 of them lather up an absolute storm in a bowl! The Omega 6218 is a big brush (the amount of bristles on this thing is massive), so a few swirls and it's game on...

Today I was browsing the local C&E store, and they had a good offer going on...so I got a smaller best badger from them for face lathering ($101 for best badger brush, 50ml ASB, 50g shave cream, 4 triple-milled bath soaps and a lifetime 10% off store-wide entitlement seemed a good deal to me). And once again, all I can say is WOW!

The Omega will now be my go-to for bowl lathering (I find it too big for direct face lather), and the C&E/Edwin Jager for face lathering.

Once again, big thanks to B&B, and I look forward to getting many years of good shaves from these, and being part of the community!

Needless to say, the only thing I'll be getting from supermarkets now is the Nivea Sensitive ASB...

Welcome to the club.

Thanks!

Now that I have the 2 brushes (which are pricey for me as a student), can you please point me to a guide or some tips for maintaining them? Having spent almost $170 on the 2, I don't want them to lose bristles...

I have bought a drip stand, and I hang whichever one I use on the stand after washing and squeezing+shaking the the water out for the rest of the day...anything else I can do to prolong their lives?

The instructions included with Thater brushes recommends rinsing thoroughly after each use and states that dried up lather is the most common source of breaking or shedding. They also recommend cleaning once a month with a mild detergent (they actually state not to use Borax) to remove soap residue. I don't go that far. I clean mine maybe 3 times a year with dishwashing detergent and then a vinegar rinse. I also keep mine on top (or inside if dry) my bedroom night stand away from my wife's makeup, hairspray and perfume circulating in the bathroom every morning.
