What's new

Thanks to all who recommended Personnas

After reading this board for a few days after I joined I added Personna blades to the blade order I placed recently. I'm happy that I did. The blades arrived on Friday and have been using them ever since. They're sharp, don't pull and get almost as close as a Feather. My technique needs work with the Feathers and sometimes I get too close to the point of irritation. No true with the Personnas - I can get very close without feeling any irritation. They're more forgiving than the Feathers and you can't beat the price. These will stay in the rotation and may end up being my go to blade. Again, thanks for all of you who gave glowing recommendations of them because they do live up to the reputation.

Are you talking about Red Pack Personnas? From the description I assume you are because I love those blades. I'm not a huge fan of regular Personnas that you get at Walgreens and what not though.

I didn't like redpacks until I threw them into my Knack today. The razor makes all the difference. I like Crystals in every razor though. And every razor does well in my Knack. Odd world isnt it?

It is. YMMV is so true. When I started wet shaving I really wanted to like Derby blades. Great shave day 1. Day 2 - ditto. Day 3 - irritation city. I could not understand it. I put them a way for 4-5 months and tried again. Same think kept happening so I used them for 2 days each until my supply was gone. Now I have a new Super Speed and am going to give them, and all my other blades a try. For all I know the Personna will be horrible and the Derby's I got with the razor may be incredible. I don't know what will happen but I'm ready to enjoy the ride.

I wanted to like the Red Pack Personnas, but every time I use them, I get a lot of nicks and weepers. It just doesn't feel as smooth as the Crystals. Though I intend to keep a couple blades of the RPPs on hand in case I get another razor. Then again, I haven't tried a sharper blade than the RPPs, so I don't know whether Astras or Feathers would be better.

But I'm agreed on the Derbys. I thought they were a solid blade when I first used them, but in a couple shaves, irritation city.

I really love the Red Packs but, tcolberg, I'm not sure that I'd call them especially "sharp" It's hard to explain but they just seem to have a nice balance of sharpness and forgivingness (is that a word?). I'd describe Merkurs, Feathers, and even Crystal/IPs as being "sharper" than red packs, but they don't seem to have that Je ne said quoi. Not that I don't like those blades, it's just that for an everyday workhorse that give a great shave at a great price, you can't beat the red pack personnas.

I also love red pack personnas. For some reason, it's the only blade that I've tried that gives me a smooth shave going ATG on the neck area. I'm trying Feathers at the moment and they are a fabulously sharp blade and absolutely smooth as, but I can't go ATG on the neck with them. I just end up cutting myself to shreds!
Definitely the right balance of smoothness and sharpness for my combo of skin and razor.
