What's new

Thanks Paul!!

For about the last 12 days I have been shaving daily with a str8 instead of just on the weekends. 3 passes, wtg and 2x xtg and clean up with my DE.

I have been using 2 razors that were honed by Paul (richmondesi) as well as the stropping and scything techniques he showed me months ago. Last week he tipped me off about blade buffing with a str8

This morning, after successfully incorporating blade buffing, I am thrilled to report my first DFS str8 shave!! Ever!! Not BBS, but no DE clean up required!! (Except for the Adam's apple :cursing:)

Today's Shave:
Brush: B&B 08 LE
Soap: MWF
Blade: Dubl Duck No. 1 Special

25 trips on TM cotton
75 trips on TM Red Latigo
25 trips on my new Hand American Chicago Special :001_wub: :001_wub:

WTG
XTG
ATG :scared:

Absolutely wonderful experience! :w00t:

Thanks, Paul for being my mentor and showing me the way. I couldn't have come this far this fast without your help and guidance.

Folks, I would like to embarass him by holding him out as the true embodiment of the B&B ideal of sharing knowledge and spreading the wetshaving word, a true gentleman (and another Jim in the making if I may dare say). :a14::a14:

Hallelujah!

+1 Paul's posts are always helpful. Thanks for the patience and help on the honing thread.

Congrats on the great shaves Harry!

I have switched to shaving with straights 5 days out of 7 and am now also able to skip the touch up with my SE razor. The other 2 days I spend traveling and use an OC Micromatic.

:blushing:

Shucks, Henry. Thank you for the kind words. Thanks to you Phil and Garry. I remember watching Payton Manning when being compared to Johnny Unitas and his response was, "I'm uncomfortable with the comparison." Jim is a great guy, my friend, and someone with whom I am am unworthy to be compared when it comes to the contributions to this site. :ouch1: FWIW, I wasn't comparing me to Peyton Manning either :lol1:

Now to your Adam's Apple... Place your finger on your Adam's Apple and swallow. You'll notice that it will go in to a point that it is practically completely flat in that area (for most guys that I know of). It's weird because it pops back out before the swallowing act is finished. With practice, you can hold your swallow (I know it sounds weird), and then you can work to improve that area with a straight.

Harry, getting to know you has been a real pleasure, and I am glad to know that I've helped you improve your shaves. Additionally, I'm glad to know how much you are enjoying the razors that I honed for you. Happy shaving my friend :001_smile

All I can say here is Amen! Paul has truly been the catalyst to getting me started on my str8 sojourn...the first shave of which begins tomorrow.

I'm truly thankful to him for answering my numerous bonehead questions and for going above and beyond to help me get started in the "Big Leagues" of wetshaving.

Thanks Paul!

Congrats on the shave. Sounds like richmondesi has been a big help. Nice to see members helping each other out.
