What's new

Thanks, Grandpa!

He gave up on the ol' brush-lathering stuff a while back, but still had this to pass along to me.

Old Spice mug (that's my own Williams puck inside it)
Unused Gillette Atra handle
Not pictured: Burt's Bees apothecary mug w/ Bay Rum soap (not pictured since it got canned in the reviews on here )

I'm not sure if I'll ever use the Atra, but the Old Spice mug will never leave my bathroom counter. If nothing else, it'll serve as a reminder of this lost art, and my Grandpa.

That's a special mug. Great find.

Oh, and as perhaps the leading Burt's Bees Bay Rum Soap hater on the planet, I say post your photos. The mug will hold other soaps if it lathers as poorly as it did for me, and it might make a dandy shower soap.

Besides, you might win a spin on the YMMV wheel. :wink2: It could really work for you (but I doubt it).

Okay, I'll take a pic tomorrow night. I actually was re-gifted a Burt's Bees set for my first little dive into traditional wet shaving (and I wasn't discouraged!! haha). It came with a heavy ceramic-handled brush that was either boar or synthetic, but it shed like a white cat on a black t-shirt. I seriously lost 4 to 6 hairs every time I lathered up. I chucked that thing a while ago, and just finished using up the soap as a shower soap as you said. I did save the apothecary mug, and upon getting this one from Gramps, it appears that my other one is a bit larger and deeper than the one he just gave me. It also came with some bay rum ASB (w/ alcohol and witch hazel) which i still have and use every now and then after i shave with Williams soap for the lather. It burns for a couple minutes but smells nice.

Interestingly, he said he's switched to Barbasol because he's convinced he'll never get as good a lather from building it the old way, as you will by pushing the button on the pressurized can. Now I'm thinking, "maybe it's just that Burt's Bees soap..." :confused1

Anytime you can get something from an important family member in an area you both enjoy(ed) is a good thing!

One of my OS mugs was the sole thing (shave related) that I have from my Grandfather. Like you it will never leave the shave den.
