test fitting a new knot

So my old ever-ready resto is moving along nicely thanks to all of you guys but I just got my TGN knot and am trying to figure out where to set it.

How do you get the knot seated and secure to test the loft/stiffness etc and still be able to move it up or down before doing the final epoxy job? As is usual for these knots, the brush is wider than the plug and when I seat it all the way down into the knot hole, the spread of the knot pushes it back up so I can't get it to stay down all the way in the hole to see if I want it set that far down or if I want to shim it up with a couple nickels or something.

by the by, the 20mm knot is PERFECT for the 22mm opening.

If the socket is not too large, getting the knot wet may swell it enough to stay seated. That worked for me with a TGN finest 22-mm in a Penworks handle. The fit was close enough that I had to let the knot dry out for a few days, before I could remove it again.

A pea sized drop of clear RTV silicone adhesive will hold it in there long enough to test lather and may very well hold until you decide to pull the knot out with force. That is the safest method. I would not recommend hot glue as that can be a bit trickier to work with and the bond is much stronger unless reheated.

I have put several wraps of electrical tape around the resin plug, trimmed it flush to the bottom with an old DE blade. Friction will hold it in place. It is easier to over estimate the thickness you require and then unwrap a little at a time than trying to add a wrap or two.
