Tell Me About this Ever-Ready

This is the 23rd razor in my collection but my first Ever-Ready.
Unlike most SEs, the top of this one is hinged near where the edge of the blade would be. What model is this? Approximately how old is it? Those who've used this model: what's your opinion?

Also, I only paid $2 for it.

That was the first ever SE I ever owned. It was included in a package deal with an ER brush I wanted. I havent used a DE since. I've been hooked. They shave really nice, but I never could get accustomed to how the head opens.

A marvelous shaver, marred only by it's need to trap water when rinsing the soap off. One small shoogle and it's fine, but got to remember to shoogle.

Congratulations! It looks to me that you have a 1924 Ever-Ready SE razor. They were manufatured from about 1924 to about 1934. The "Pat. App'd For" suggest an early model from the mid 1920's. They are similar to the Gem and the Star 1912's, except for the major differences that the door is hinged from the bottom, and to open one pushes the tab forward. Some folks think the 1924 is quirky, but it is a favorite of mine. It is much easier to clean the back of the head, as the handle screws directly into the back of the head and there is no hood. It has a more streamlined appearance, and it has a different "feel" and balance than the 1912 razors. This razor also is known as the "shovelhead." The Ever-Ready 1924 is my #1 favorite of all the "early" SE razors. In my experience it is an outstanding shaver with a medium level of aggression. Again, congratulations!

I learned a new word today and I like it. Turn some music on and let's shoogle!

It will give great shaves once you figure out the right shave angle. It takes a little practice. It is not at all like a double edge razor. After 3 shaves you should have it down pretty much. There are a few good YouTube videos from members here to provide instruction.
