Technique getting worse?

I have been wet shaving since joining and never noticed I had a problem, but when using a double edge I noticed that my shaves were great at first and were getting progressively worse as time went along. So after the jump to cartidges (Trac II, Sensor and Atra on rotation) the shaves were great, now the past three shaves I have been getting some bumps/ ingrowns. Any one have this happen to them? Any tips beside the obvious watch mantic videos over again?

My best guess is you need to slow down and take your time! (Although if time is a factor in your routine an Injector is my 'go-to' for a quick shave)

My guess is that you are careful when you start a new procedure, and then get complacent.

That or you need to change blades more often!

It sounds like your face may be telling you it needs a break.

Do you shave every day?
If so try going to a shave every other day, or 2 on, 1 off.

My 2 cents.

Time to start paying more attention to whisker grain/direction IMHO.

One thing I noticed when I first switched to safety razors (from electric) was that my whisker growth, particularly on my neck, changed direction a bit. Once I adjusted, shaves got better again.

I don't think that there should be any skin issues if you are shaving every two or three days. It's very common to get lax in paying attention to what you are doing when doing repetitive tasks, and I'll bet that's what's happening with you.

My guess would be that you're using too much pressure on the razor. Also if you can do it I'd try shaving every other day or even every third day until things settle down.

If you have to shave every day I'd try just using 1 or 2 passes and staying WTG. That should give you a passable shave until your technique gets better. Be sure to use no pressure other than that of the weight of the razor.

I find that a slow, careful, and no pressure DE shave can last me through 2 days, and I have a fairly heavy beard. Also check your blade angle, and perhaps the blade you're using is not so good for you. :thumbup1:
