Tape tip

If you use a lot of electrical tape like I do it doesn't hurt have a simpler method of cutting a piece or several for a razor. I was looking at a tape dispenser this morning and the idea hit me to refill one with electrical tape. Now putting the tape in is only half the battle because you need a better cutter than the cheesy serrated thing included so I cut the middle out of a Dorco shavette blade. Why the middle? Because thats only way I had braces on both ends of the blade for support. I just pulled the serrated blade out measured it and broke off the ends of the Dorco blade with a pair of pliers and diagonal cutters. Do not modify or install the blade with your fingers! Use a a pair of pliers for your safety. Protective glasses are a must when cutting the blade also.

Ok that is my contribution for today. :001_tongu

Your welcome! The dispenser style like I used is the only kind big enough for the bulk size of the tape even though they all have the same size center hole.

It's funny, whenever I'm taping a spine I'm always looking for something to cut the tape with - even though I'm holding a razor sharp blade :)

Then I am liable for someone cutting them selves on the razor sharp cutter required to cut the thick tape. Or I have to design a better way yet and then find an investor. I just don't see a big enough market.

I don't use much tape - so scissors work fine for me. But that dispenser is interesting.
I seem to remember Electrical Tape coming in a dispenser though... maybe I'm thinking of something else.
If not though - maybe find one and see what they're using for a cutter.
Maybe you could sharpen the original one with a small file so it'll work better?

while we're here - does anyone have input on the difference between Super 88 and 1700 tape?

I just the 1700 when I need to. Never had an issue. But I've read that some hone-dogs use Super 88 exclusively.

Just wondering what, if any, differences there are.
