Tabac

Just purchased some Tabac and I can't wait to get it. I've heard awesome things about it and soon I get to experience it. Hopefully it works out better than the puck of MWF that I'm currently cursing at.

All the awesome things you heard about Tabac are all true !! The scent and the lather are incredible !!

I just started using a Tabac shave stick and it is my first Tabac experience. The smell kind of reminds me of Aramis which was a cologne my grandfather wore in the 1980s, not sure they make it any more though.

Performance is fantastic, but the scent is a love or hate thing. For me it's the latter and the only actual reason why I do not use Tabac.

I have some left from Tabactober 2011. I'll finish it in Tabactober 2012, or as soon as I finish a puck of Arlington. Anywho, I don't think I'll replace it despite its incredible lather, as I can find lathers nearly as good with preferable scents.

It is a great classic soap that is a staple in many dens on B&B. There are some that do not enjoy the scent and if that is your reaction give it a number of tries and you may just get to like it as so many of us do. Don't give up on MWF either. It is a fantastic soap as well and once you figure out to lather it with your water, brush and loading technique, will enjoy and become a favorite. Good luck!

Doug

I normally buy the stick from Guernsey off the 'Bay, but having never been able to use a stick without mess I generally pop it in the micro for about thirty seconds and decant into my mug.
Love the performance and the scent is both subtle and surprisingly long-lasting.

Tabac is excellent (if you like the scent), but +1 on not giving up on MWF. One of my brushes requires that I use the wetter brush approach to lathering MWF, while my other brush requires the drier brush approach. With both brushes (and having hard water) I have to load MWF for two full minutes. MWF joins Tabac and others in my wonderful rotation. Yes, like my children and my students, a few of them are special challenges, but the challenges often yield the greatest rewards.

I'm always surprised that the smell of Tabac turns some people off as I find it incredibly mild. I think it smells like old time soap and even my lady diggs it, and she has expensive taste. Ymmv though. Performance is second to none and it lasts forever. Gotta love it!

Tabac is pretty easy to get right and MWF is less simple. Don't throw out your MWF just yet and revisit it later (months/weeks/a year).

Some soaps get a lot of praise that they might not really deserve, just because they are easier than others to get it right, while some 'hard-to-get-it-right-soaps' are under-appreciated, and I think Tabac belongs in the first category and MWF in the latter.
