Synthetic knots for brush restoration

I know that:
1) Plisson brush knot can be sacrificed.
2) Rudy Vey has Muhle STF V2 knots
3) V.Sheng has knots on the bay.

I have heard of a few other variations - including a larger version (24mm) that looks similar to the Plisson knot. Not sure of the source for that.

Potentially a larger knot thatn the Plisson with a lower loft might provide the appropriate balance of soft tips and backbone

The V. Sheng Pur Tech knots have very soft tips, comparable to the Plisson IMO. They also have pretty substantial backbone; much more than the Plisson, by way of comparison. The largest available Sheng synthetic knot is 22mm (though her synthetics consistently measure a bit larger than advertised). If you set this knot at a fairly low loft, e.g. below 50mm, it will have lots of backbone. I set mine a bit higher, at 52mm, and it eats up hard soaps, and face lathers like a champ. You do have to wait on the slow boat from China, but here on the west coast that has been reasonable, about 10 days to two weeks. I don't know about Canada.

Have fun.
