Superspeed Love...

A couple of years ago my Uncle gave me the razor he was given by my Great Grandmother when he joined the RAF in 1953. He was in the RAF for two years and they made him shave every day, so he has been a beard wearer since the day he left. So I have a near mint English made 1953 Gillette Superspeed.

Anyway, when I first tried it I couldn't get on with at all. I always much preferred my Muhle R89. The other day something made me try the Superspeed again. So I loaded it with a Wilkinson Sword Classic blade. I'm glad I did, this razor is fantastic. Irritation free BBS in two WTG passes and a little ATG touching up under my chin. I've had a couple of shaves with it since and the results have been equally good. This razor has instantly become my regular razor.

I love Superspeeds.:D

Pics? There are few variation of SS. Besides looking at pics is cool. Yes, I agree with the right blades it gives an excellent shave.

I started shaving about when your uncle went into the RAF. I tried an electric, a couple of DEs, and an SE. One of the DEs was a one-piece similar to your uncle's razor, I think (although made in the USA) . I've been intending to get a similar razor once again, but a Red Tip came along first, and then a Black Tip. I wasn't actively looking for either one, but I just couldn't pass them up. The Red Tip shaves quite well. I haven't tested the Black Tip yet.

Every time I've tried keeping a beard, it itched me so badly after 8-10 days that I had to give up.

Even thought I have one, (great shave as you say by the way), I'm not sure what class this model falls in.
I will leave this to others that know the English models better than I do.

So on the basis of that advert my razor cost £0.96p in today's money.
