Gillette post war Tech or a Flare Tip Super Speed if you want a TTO.
No the R89 is a zamak razor. In Stainless they do offer the Rocca and the R41 GS. That said I really like the R89.Does the R89 come in stainless?
76 and 84 plates are both more efficient than the 34C.I'm looking for my first stainless razor. May I crash the Game Changer party here to ask which plate you experts would recommend for someone who loves the Merkur Progress on 2-3 for a daily two-pass shave? I find the 34c to be a bit mild.
That is a good suggestion. I unfortunately do not own a Karve razor. My only point of reference is that I do own GC .68 and .84 along with Rockwell 6C. Of the two GC I like the .84 better.I have both of the above GC base plates. I find the .68 a bit mild and the .84 too much. They have a .76-P that might be perfect for me, but haven't tried it yet.
A used Overlander would be my vote. It is a very effective razor while being extremely comfortable.
If your brother likes classy things nobody does chrome like Edwin Jagger and Muhle. They look fantastic in a stand on a vanity.I should probably add that my brother's a 42 year-old surgeon with fine motor skills, a lot of disposable income, and somewhat expensive if not super refined tastes. Before appealing to you, these are the razors I considered : TGS Syntesi, YAQI Sentinel (smallest gap), DS Cosmetic S9 scalloped cap, and the Karve Overlander (used). My gut says that a stainless steel razor would probably suit his aesthetics best.
I would have loved this one when I was a teen. It looks nice and mean.
I prefer the idea of picking up a tool rather than a toy, too. Does the R89 come in stainless? I like the Overlander, but I'm not sure I would be able to part with it if I bought it.
I was going to suggest the Syntesi. It has a thin head so it’s easy to maneuver and it’s easy to find the correct shaving angle.I should probably add that my brother's a 42 year-old surgeon with fine motor skills, a lot of disposable income, and somewhat expensive if not super refined tastes. The DSCosmetics is for whatever reason the one head I can't get along with (the sharp corners?). It's meant to be a GC clone but I have never tried the GC, so I can't tell if I'd have the same issue with it.Wow, I can't keep up with you guys. I'll admit I don't especially like any of the RR handles on IB. The Mamba might be right up his alley, but a few reviews I've read mention that swapping out blades is a chore. I think I'll probably go with the .76mm plate if I buy a GC.
As for looks, does RR offer a scalloped top cap like the DS-D8? I think that's pretty smooth.

The Overlander is something I'll likely buy for myself someday.Karve Overlander, PAA Meta-4, Leaf Twig, The Goodfella's smile Syntesi, Paradigm Salient, Aylsworth Kopperkant
Thanks! I don't own it, but I've used it a few times. The #5 plate was made for me. I found the head unwieldy, but I really didn't give it enough time to adjust.Rockwell 6S
The Bayonetta and the Ghost have been added to my short list. I have the Ghost Ti and 90sb SS head and thought I might gift him the Ti and buy the Harlequin handle for the 90 myself.1. Yaqi Bohemia
2. Yaqi Ghost 70/90
3. DSC S8/S9 V92/959
4. GFS Bayonetta
Now I get it. I think he'd like the looks of the DS-T7 .70 with a scalloped cap.As far as I know, all RR stainless razors have the same blade changing "issue" you described. They designed the blade posts system opposite to every other razor maker. Top cap vs bottom plate.
I've never had an issue changing the blades or finding the angle or sweet spot on my Mamba. Neither has our first time DE shaver son. The Lupo 58 on the other hand, I can't get a good shave out of it and find the angle/sweet spot not forgiving and narrow. I've gotten only 1 good shave from mine as I find it too rough to even trial.
From IB site:
"With razors like the Mamba, where the blade alignment pins are on the base/guard plate, load the DE blade onto the base/guard plate and then put on the top cap.
The easiest way to load a DE blade into the RazoRock Game Changer razor is to put the base plate of the razor head (the flat one) in the palm of your hand, then drop DE blade over the alignment posts. Then you can put the top cap on and proceed to screw down the handle lock"

I use my Rockwell 6S on plate #2, guess this would be good for you relative if he has sensitive skin. The Ti Ghost is also good with the small (.7 or so) gap. But, do not exclude a single edge razor, the Yaqi Romulus is my all time favorite SE.Thank you for the recommendations! The GC .76, TGS Bayonetta, Yaqi Ghost/Paradigm Salient, and Karve Overlander all look like good choices to me. I also think the DS-T7, DS-AX, and Yaqi Sentinel in baby gap versions might fit the bill.
