superglue for small nicks

Today I had one of these nasty small nicks that wont stop bleeding despite Alum and styptic. What I did is I took a tube of superglue and used it to seal the cut. Seems to work very well. Bleeding stopped immediately (burns a little but who cares). Actually superglue is used in medicine to seal cuts and wounds so I figured why not use it here. Now I keep a small tube in my shave den. Anyone else ever tried this?

Now there is only one difference between medical grade "super glue" and what you can buy in the store and that is the sterility. So infection is possible but I have never seen I happen. Be cautious when using I on your face since scaring is very likely unless you can manage the edges of the cut really well.

If you can't get bleeding to stop with alum or styptic, direct pressure is your best bet. For at least 3-5 minutes. Liquid bandage is essentially super glue, it's just in a more convenient, single use applicator. Ideally you want bleeding stopped and the skin lined up like it was before the cut. The glue should be a layer over the surface of the cut, NOT between the edges of the cut as this can lead to more significant scarring. A few weeks ago I cut the tip of my thumb passing my razor from one hand to the other (looked up at the wrong moment). Once the bleeding stopped I tried a bandaid, but I couldn't get it to stay on and I need to be able to use my hands for various things. We had some "nail glue" my wife uses for her fingernails (super glue again) that has a brush to apply it--worked perfectly. The tip of my thumb was harder than usual due to the glue, but it held together and healed very quickly--much more quickly than it would have otherwise. Now I can't even tell where the cut was

I'd be leery of using superglue to close a wound on my face. I would think that it would inhibit the wound's ability to close, exacerbating the potential for scarring.

What has worked well for me is a towel moistened with Speick aftershave. Wipe the affected area frequently until the bleeding stops.

For the record, I'm not a doctor and I do not play one on TV.

I have tried it but not on my face. It stopped the bleeding quickly. Very helpful in emergencies.

I just had occasion to use ot Friday. I pretty much had the bleeding stopped, but it was right before bed, and since I toss and turn a lot, I didn't want to risk the cut opening up again, so I glued it. That was the first time I've ever used super glue on a shaving cut.

Superglue or the medical equivalent (dermabond) are great but are used to approximate the edges of a cut and not to stop the bleeding.

I use dermabond all the time but the edge needs to be hemostatic, if it is still bleeding the blood tends to lift the glue off the skin.

If the alum block ot stiptic pencil do not work, hold pressure with a mosit towel for at least 5 minutes (measured by the clock) and the bledding should stop.

Pressure is your friend, I have stopped bleeding in the aorta and vena cava by pressure.

Hey Doc, I think you're only supposed to shave with a Hart.

I've never cut myself that severely with a straight. Cold water, pressure, and the alum block have been enough. Just avoid the alcohol splash at the end, which reopens the cut.

I've never cut myself so bad that I'd need super glue, but I've heard many stories of its use to close cuts. Its something to keep in mind should the need every arise.
