Suggestions for a new razor?

...and how far should I go?

So I have two straights. A gold dollar and a Devon antique razor that was recently restored (a gift from a friend). So I have considered taking the plunge. I've thought about getting me a Dovo, preferably a Dovo Special. But I wonder if I should even go that far.

I shave every other day. A good straight razor shave will leave me fresh faced, even with only one pass (I don't have a very thick beard) so I'm looking for something that will do the job and outlive me.

Anyone have any suggestions?

hmmm...
I'm just the opposite.. started with 1 new (Dovo) and went old-school after that..
My Dovo will probably outlive me.. the rest are already older than I'll ever be.

So, I'm not much help to ya.. but still very interested in seeing the suggestions you'll get.

I would take that $70 and find a nice vintage solingen blade. But that is just me. I like vintage

Maybe I have not understood you correctly but when you write that: "So I have considered taking the plunge.", I assume that you are thinking of trying your hand at Str8 shaving. If so it is a commendable initiative and as an almost complete newbie myself, I wish you all the best and I highly recommend it. Now, if you already have two straights, why get a further one if you cannot be sure if you will like shaving with straights in the first place?

+1 on vintage Solingen blades. For example, you can find old Henckels razors at very reasonable prices, and they're great razors.

Vintage Sheffield is good too.
