Stropping

I have gotten a few messages asking me to make a vid showing my stropping method.

I made this short video and try to explain how I do it. Might not be the classic rolling the blade way but it works for me.

Thanks for the video. I have been using SRs off and on for the past year and a half, but it seems I always pick up a little something helpful each time I watch someone else do something.

Boy, that sure is a nice looking razor
It is. I can't find it though. Lol
This is almost exactly what I do as well. Nice video.
Works for me

I'm always learning.
Thanks Doc, that really answered any questions I had about how you hold the tang and hold the leather with the off-hand!
Glad to help

Looks similar to how I do it...Like you said it's not the classic way, but I'm so used to it now that that's what I stick with..

I was pretty adept at simply flipping the razor with my fingers between strokes, but since I received my Kanayama I feel like I've had to re-learn stropping to use the suede because of the crazy draw it has. Watching your video helped, thanks doc. I might practice this way on my older strop in case I mess it up.

When the blade is freshly honed - I use way more tension that that.
That amount of slack - for me - is reserved for razors that have been used a lot since honing; the amount of slack increases with use on the edge.
I grip the barber's end differently, square to my fingers rolled into a fist. Or - I wrap the end around a short flat piece of walnut (roughly 4 x 1.75 x .5") - works well.
I've also considered using a 1" diameter hardwood dowel about 4" long; should work well.
