Stropping issue

Hey guys, still pretty new at this straight razor thing.
I have been noticing some lines running the length of my strop after about 1 week of using a straight. I noticed that when I am stropping the start of the tang is sitting in the strop. I didn't really notice, but it being on the strop lifts the heel of the blade off the strop so I am essentially stropping the tip of the blade. I bought a 3" strop in the hopes of not having to do the x-pattern.

Could this have ruined my strop or blade?
Is this a problem anyone else has had to deal with?
Thanks

Not really sure I understand what you mean, I can be an idiot at times! I've never seen a razor where the tang protrudes past the spine, which is what you would want touching the strop for the correct angle. If it does protrude more than the spine couldn't you just put the blade on the strop and not the tang?
Im also sure a few lines wont have damaged your strop.

I'm not sure, but this might be a similar problem to what I'm facing right now. I posted here (pic included). My question was more pointed to how to address the issue of the blade, but it seems to be resultant from a problem on the spine of the blade as it lays flat on the strop.

I have the same question, so maybe i can explain it to you. I think the original poster is speaking of the shank of the razor, not the tang (according to the diagram on the B&B wiki). If the side of the shank is resting on the strop, then the edge of the blade can not rest flush with the stop. Only the tip of the edge of the blade will sit flush on the strop until the razor is moved laterally in the X pattern and the shank is no longer touching the strop. At that time, the edge of the blade and the spine can both rest fully on the strop.

From the sounds of it, if I'm getting the jist, this is a serious mistake. I haven't a clue what would "cause" this to happen though. To me it sounds like a "Doctor, it hurts when I pull on my finger" issue. The advice, to stop doing it, is recommended.

I think that I would need to see a picture with the problem as I don't think I completely understand what's happening.

If your straight is 3" and the strop is 3", you don't need the X pattern.

Other than the lines how is the straight shaving? What's your experience so far? Is the straight shave ready (hone by a honemeister)?
