Straight Question and A DublDuc for 100 Bucs

I bought some straights to use at a later date (aka when I move out of my parents) and I bought this near mint Wire Cutter. Can you give me some info on this razor? I don't know much about it.

Also, my stepfather bought a straight for himself. A SWEET DublDuc for the sweeter price of 100. His biological son, another wet shaver, got an identical one with a little more wear for the same price. The third razor is also mine, a Thiers-Issard with a minor chip at the tip for 35. None are shave ready. I thought you guys might appreciate it.

I dont see any chips..you mean the toe of the razor has a different tip?..spike tip is the DublDuck....the one underneath that is a roundpoint...

Sorry, the chip is at the toe, you can see a little corrosion there. I know about the points, and did research on the DublDuc,, I just want to know about the Wire Cutter.

Thanks. I love the heft. I forgot, my stepbrother also picked up a wade and butcher in a needs work condition. Pretty sweet as well

Great score on the DD. I've got one that I picked up from Larry - it's no beauty queen, but it is easily one of my favorites!

I have the same Wire Cutter with the only regret that mine has much more wear from years of honing. That is one fine razor that will give you a really nice shave. That is to say as long as you do your part at the proper stone, strop it well and know what you are doing in application to the face. The steel is nearly as hard as a housewife's heart and mine stays sharp for quite some time between hone sessions, almost as sharp as the little lady's tongue. I'd say you have a really nice find there. I also have three Double Ducks which are delights as are my TI and Wade and Butchers. However, when I go on extended trips to far off places where my stuff could become not mine anymore, I always take my Wire Cutter and another like condition Ingles. I'd be really sad if they went away but, I know that they will perform for me as well as those of higher value from my stable yet not break the bank to replace money wise.

I couldn't resist this second note:

That TI doesn't look all that bad to me from your picture. I'd say that a good hone guy could work that out without too much steel loss or troubles, uh, with some spine tape of course. As for the other staining, a careful hand with some maybe 400, crocus cloth, then a good work over with some automotive rubbing compound, course then fine, with a nice piece of cheese cloth would produce a razor you'll be proud of. Give it a good cleaning with some hot soapy water and a disinfecting. The fine rubbing compound and a soft cloth will most likely get those scales looking really nice too. Hone it to a keen edge, strop it and enjoy. Cleaning it up this way will keep the heat of the high speed buffing wheel off your razor. You don't want to anneal that edge, only repair and pretty it up a little.

Anyway, please take this as my personal opinion and not the absolute of "What you should do". It's what I'd do though.

I hope you and your in-laws enjoy those razors as much as I have enjoyed mine.

Respectfully

Chasmo
