straight progress checkin

Well I have been wtg shaving my sideburn to jaw line and neck on my left side (I'm left handed) using the standard hold for about 3 shaves now.
I decided to try the right side as well and when I put the razor in the opposite hand and started to try it felt so strange I put the razor back into my left hand and held it machete style and cleaned up the right side fairly well for a 1st try.
I noticed I was able to see better shaving this way.
This went so well I decided to try the chin and center neck with the same technique.
And then the upper and lower lip followed without incident.
This went really well with no blood and although far from perfect I now feel I may eventually be able to give myself a DFS.

Congrats.
Keep at it and don't give up.

nice one.

I used one hand for the first while with a straight, then once I was more confident I have left hand a go also. I now use about 20% left, 80% right hand. Lots of crazy grips too

Three shaves and already making progress - congratulations!

One word of advice: hold the razor however feels comfortable to you. And now for the inevitable caveat: try to learn to use both hands. The effort will pay off in the long run.

Whatever works I suppose. However, using both hands has its advantages. But, I went many years using only my right hand so, its not a terribly bad thing.

Congrats!

I'm still very new to str8's myself, and I started just using my right hand. Now as my confidence has been getting better, I've started using my left hand, and its not all that bad.

Gotta agree on the whatever works for you grip though. I guess it doesn't matter how you hold the str8 as long as it gets the job done. :thumbup1:

Thanks everyone.
That right hand is going to be a bear.
I am going to try to bring it in after I get a little more confident.
The tell will be when you start seeing these in the BST. :001_smile

Good work!

Shaving with both hands is 'un-natural' at first but then it becomes an habit. I started with my right hand for the first few shaves and I am now using both hands (50/50). It's interesting as I do not have any other activity where I'm able to use my left/right hand like I do with shaving...

cool

I shave w/ either hand as needed now w/ any variety of grips, not giving it a thought at all.

Definitely started out as the right handed equivalent of your status quo, though, so have hope.

Funny how it has become rote, & in 20 years prior I never used my left hand w/ a safety razor.
