Straight aquisition help.

I ran across a guy with a couple straights on another forum (non shaving) I'm on. He told me to make an offer, but I'm not sure how much if anything these are worth. I figured if I posted up the pics maybe some of you fine gents could steer me in the right direction. Thanks.

Other has no markings on it, but is in a case that says "Spencer Lens Co." on it. Is this one even repairable?

I would forget about the Boker. You would need to have the chips honed out which would eat a lot of the blade.

The first one, well, if it doesn't have any markings it could be anything. I don't recognize the model, I wouldn't touch it.

If those are the only two pictures available I'd pass on both razors. The picture on the Boker makes the blade to seem a little bit twisted in the toe. It may be an optical thing with the shadows from the camera but it's not worth the risk IMO.

The 2nd picture is enough to discount that razor altogether.

My advice would be to grab something off the BST. You'll at least have a better shot of getting something clean and shave ready, and I'd say more than half the time it'll be from somebody's personal collection.

I'd be interested to see what other B&B'ers say about the value of those blades monetarily and if it jives with my opinion.

Best of luck!

Luc,

Unless I'm reading the OP's post wrong I think the top picture is the Boker and the 2nd is the "unkown".

What do you think?

I don't know guys. Based on just one pic, I like it. Looks pretty clean, minimal hone wear, double stabilizers, no major pitting. Scales have a crack near the pin. I'd say it's worth picking up just to practice honing if nothing else. If it's a Boker, it will probably turn out to be a good shaver.

What am I missing?

+1 on pass the 2nd, and also pass if you can't get a picture of the Boker that shows if the blade is close to straight.

If it isn't bent, IMHO this is one that might fetch an auction bid of about $10-20. What do you guys think? Cracked scales scare most off and lower the price on even the known to be good brand blades.

More than that I would probably pass, broken scales and you will have to either hone it or have it honed and that is ~$20, and maybe some shipping cost.

If you are just wanting to give straight shaving a try, a decent usable vintage blade can be had on the B/S/T for ~$30-40, already honed, or contact Larry Andro http://www.whippeddog.com/ and he will set you up inexpensively.

You're not really missing anything. I wouldn't call it worth the risk if that blade is torqued. But since the OP was asking about value I'd say anything more than $20 is way too much.

I posted $10-20 s what I would bid in an auction setting, so I agree no more than $20, even if it is not torqued.

I'd offer him 10-15 for both.

Explain what's wrong with them.

Those cracks in the scales in the first picture can be fixed with super glue. Just like bringing a rifle stock back from the dead. Look like wood one piece scales on my monitor.

Explain that the bottom one will be for practice.

Worst case, you're out 10-15 dollars.

Thanks everyone. I offered him $10 plus shipping for both of them. Waiting to hear back. I'll post up if I get them or not.

Should be here tomorrow. Scored a Red Imp in the PIF from TThunder, I'll post pics of that when I get it.

Everyday I draw closer to me dream of straight shaving.

Alright I have the Boker, the unmarked, and the Red Imp now. The scales on all three were garbage so that's were they are now. The unmarked one is in pretty bad condition and I'll use it to practice honing. Here are a couple pics as I received them.
