What's new

Storage and travel kit.

Yesterday I made a post requesting people submit their ideas for cases for razors and interesting solutions for travel kits. So, Demaskee made mention of Pelican cases. I may as well have been in my car as soon as he said it because I made a trip to REI and have returned with my spoils. He recommended the 1020 but I got the 1015. Even though I had the option this seemed more my speed. It's small yet has room for everything I really want.

Of course even with all of this on a trip I'll still pack a Dopp with soap, hair brush, toothbrush... well you know... the standards. But this has the ability to contain a lot of good bits and pieces that would otherwise simply float around in the Dopp.

In the case are two pair of tweezers, vial of cologne, vial of oil, nail clippers, blades, mustache comb, travel mirror, fatboy and silica pack. The mirror is in a rubber sheath (liberty mutual printed on it). I added a bit of 1/4" foam to keep everything from rattling around placed between the mirror and the rest of the items. It all fits snuggly. I'm very pleased with the results.

I might adjust what is in there over time but as it stands it seems quite together. I like being ready to go at a moments notice. The pelican case also appears to be MOLLE compatible which is awesome.

That's pretty slick there, guy! Pelican stuff is nice; how much was it?

You could even get some harder foam and custom-cut slots in for the components. Lots of vendors do that to build purpose-built kits with Peilcan cases.

I'll definitely be doing this. The case has a rubber insert, and so what I'll likely do is cut the bottom from the rim and add maybe a bit of wire to it with some glue in order to give it back some rigidity. Then build an insert that fits underneath it. This is a project for another day though.

I was looking at something similar I found at Walmart... it was in the camping/outdoor section of the store, I think intended to carry cell phones or something similar. I didn't buy it yet, but took some internal measurements to make sure my razor, et al, fits.

I like what you did, though. Might have to reconsider and get a bigger box...

Fantastic idea!

But - and apologies if I missed it - where's the shave brush?

Cheers,

Rick

There's no brush. To accommodate a brush I'd need a fairly larger box. So for the brush I'm just going to be using a spare medication bottle. That was suggested by another person here. This is just one piece to a Dopp, which is just one piece of an EDC. At some point I'm sure I'll post a full walkthrough of my EDC, but probably not until after the holidays.
