I have a couple of Vie-Long brushes. They are good brushes at a good price, and the horse-hair brushes do not require a dead animal.

The horse-hair smell is rather pungent at first, but it does go away as you use it. You can speed up the cleansing process if it bothers you, but I didn't mind the initial farm smell, so I didn't bother. I just used it. Now it has no funky smell at all.

I have a Vie-long and the initial stink was pretty bad. It goes away quickly with use. I used Bigelow's Menthol and Eucalyptus to speed the process. They are good brushes but I think I am going to be getting only badger brushes in the future. That is turning out to be my personal preference.

i have badger, boar and synthetic bristle brushes, none of them were as stinking as the horse hair, i think i got the hair from the horses *** it was that bad, thankfully after a bit of use its going away, the next horse brush i will use the cleaning method described, i will get another vie long brush again no problem because they are good brushes.

At least you don't have to worry about this.......
