Starting a Sample Pack

Hey guys,
I am a newbie (just received my starter set today!!). I have a question as I start using my sample pack tomorrow morning. The pack has a total of 125 blades, with some of the packages having 5 blades and others having 10 (but you probably already knew that). So, should I try one pack at a time and work my way through them all, or should I try one blade and when finished with it move onto another brand/pack of blades? Then continue the cycle, just ranking the blades as I go along. Any suggestions would be helpful.

P.S. I know I asked this question in the general discussion, but didn't see the "Safety Razor Blades" section. Sorry, newbie mistake.

I'd suggest starting with one of the 10-packs and go through it, then decide whether you want to go blade jumping or go through another full pack. There are several approaches, someone will suggest that you put the sampler away for later and get a bulk order of one type, and use it for one or two months. I went through 10 blades of one type myself, then decided to switch to a different one. My shave improved amazingly, I made a bad pick the first time, and I'm glad I didn't suffer for it for two months.

Thanks, I had my first shave this morning and it was great. Didn't see this until now so I didn't choose a 10 blade pack. I decided (based on some other comments on another thread) to use half of each pack and then cycle through again since a blade that I thought was terrible (for me) may actually be great due to my technique getting way better.

Since there are around 23 packs of blades I don't know if I will get through all of them before I start to settle in, but we'll see. I started with an Astra blade today and it was awesome. Can't wait till morning!

I would suggest switching brands after getting the max number of shaves of a single blade from one brand.

Until you hone your mechanical skill with shaving, you're not going to be able to fully optimize certain blades. If you try a whole box and decide you don't like it, you may actually prefer them but don't currently have the technique to adequately use it.

This is the reason so many people don't like Merkur blades. They come with the razors and newbies don't know how to shave properly. They associate those bad shaves with the Merkur blades over time.

I hated feathers when I first started two years ago, but I just placed a 100 order last week for them.
