Stabilized wood vs non stabilized wood for scales

A couple of questions:

1. Does stabilized wood last longer than non-stabilized wood?
2. How much do coats of CA help in stabilizing any wood? From what I read stabilization needs vaccum and some pretty noxious chemicals to get the job done.
