Squeaking Screw/Handle on Edwin Jagger DE89L

Two months ago, I cleaned my year-old Edwin Jagger DE89L by soaking it in Scrubbing Bubbles for 15 minutes. I let it air dry for a day, then reassembled it. No issues.

A couple weeks after that cleaning, the screw started squeaking when I removed the head to change the blade. There is a hard, white buildup on the screw part of the razor head that I can't remove.

In an effort to clean the screw/hole, I cleaned it again and let it dry for two days. No improvement - the squeaking has almost forced me to replace the razor altogether.

Any ideas on how I can remove the crust on the screw to fix the squeak?

Thanks!

I'm no expert but I think soaking these newer shavers in any chemicals is a bad idea. While the newer razors look indestructable, they are pot metal with a rhodium or other plating applied. I fear that you either removed the coating with the scrubbing bubbles, or the plating was compromised before you soaked it. I think what you are seeing is the eroding of the pot metal. Can you post a pic of the threads? It may be at the point of no return. You can try to use a small wire brush to remove what you can and then oil the threads. Another person soaked his in vinegar and it looked like the threads melted away. Again JMO, so take it for what it's worth.

I didn't soak mine but after a couple of years there is a slight squeak. Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly is your friend... Expect WD40 would do the trick too!

That looks batter than I thought it would. Try some oil or grease on the threads, It may help with the eroding as well
