Hello again, B&Bers!

This week’s SOTD Theme is “Cheapie Shaving Setups”.

Let’s try to be frugal this week and use some of our least expensive shaving gear!

This week, put away the $300 Silvertip badger brushes, Wolfman razors, KAI and Med Prep blades, Creed and Tom Ford colognes and $50 tubs of soap! Bring out your dollar store razors and blades, Walmart fragrance clones, that puck of Williams soap you bought a few years ago for $1.99, etc.

We want to see your inexpensive soaps, razors, aftershaves, fragrances, blades and any other shaving accessories that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. Show us and tell us all about what you use that is inexpensive. If you bought a rare vintage razor at a thrift shop for dirt cheap, that counts too!

Nothing cheapie themed? You must be rich! But please still post a pic of your usual shaving setups. Or post pics of your usual SOTD or just tell us all about it. Let’s see lots of cheapie themed posts this week!

As always, the weekly themes are just a suggestion. We encourage you to post or shoot photos of your Shave Gear of the Day regardless of the theme as sticking with the theme is NOT mandatory but encouraged.

Let’s see your Cheapie shaving gear!

Oh, this is gonna be an easy SOTD week. I have some seriously cheap shaving gear. Whoever dreamed this theme week up almost had to have been spying into my shave den. No whiskers left for today, so I'll be back tomorrow with a tale of a shave that would make a 1930s depression era shaver proud. Soup line shave. Oh yeah. This is gonna happen. Home of the "nickel shave".

  • Razor Gillette Slim Adjustable (5) J4
  • Blade Feather Hi-Stainless Platinum
  • Pre-Shave Pears soap (Mint)
  • Brush Omega Pro 48 boar
  • Cream Palmolive – Coconut Extract
  • Post Shave Nivea Sensitive Pro Moisturizer

The Morning Shave.

The Feather blade was in my 1964 Gillette Slim Adjustable today.

I missed a Saturday shave, an opportunity to use the Feather Hi-Stainless today.
A very comfortable light shave, very smooth face & head shave. No nicks or discomfort.
The Omega Boar brush has broken in well and easily produces a rich dense lather.

This was the second shave with my Mergress XL and Wizamet blade. I have always liked adjustable razors because of their flexibility with settings. I usually keep the setting on 3+, which gives me a nice close shave. However, with the ATG pass, I put the setting on 2 by the mustache area. I used another badger brush today. Rudy Vey made the brush and it has a has a Shavemac two-band D01 knot. The Razor Rock soap was used for the tenth consecutive day. The result was a perfect shave. Have a wonderful day, folks.

Razor : Gem G bar. Mfg 1955-58, milder to tame mid range. Well built to last generations, it has a excellent heavy chrome coating. In a skilled hand with good technique the results are excellent. Had a close comfortable stellar shave this morning.
Blade : Gem Personna SS PTFE(5) very sharp, excellent longevity, smooths out nicely, predictable + safest blade to handle.
Soap : Yaqi "The Green", nice scented fresh forest scent IMO with excellent lather qualities.
Brush : Yaqi "Viper" 24mm boar bristle knot. Excellent lather generator, soft split end bristle hairs, nice splay scrubber + great lather painter.
Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area.
Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups.
Post shave : Yaqi "The Green" + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless).
Results : Dial 10 stellar.jpg or CCS,DFS,BBs + no irritation + no weepers=:a17: Had a close comfortable stellar shave this morning with my Gem(ASR) "G" bar with a coated Gem blade.

Have some great shaves!

Razor: Schick J
Blade: Schick (1)
Brush: Simpson Wee Scot
Pre-shave: Stirling Unscented soap
Soap: Taconic Urban Woods
Aftershave: Captain’s Choice Nor’Easter

Most of this shave was upper cheap level. But you can’t get too much cheaper than a used Schick injector. And bang for the buck is definitely with the Schick. Once I put in a new blade is was a great shave.
