Hello B&Bers!

This SOTD Weekly Theme is all about Halloween.

This week’s theme is easy peasy… we just want to see you showcase your Halloween Spirit and Halloween themed SOTD! All you need to do is incorporate Halloween into your SOTD posts!

We want to see pics that include Halloween costumes, candy, Jack O Lanterns, Halloween themed shaving brushes ( @ChiefBroom from Paladin makes great examples of this), themed soaps like B&M Hallows, etc… anything “Scary” would fit the bill.

Nothing SE themed? Please still post a pic of your usual shaving setups. Or post pics of your usual SOTD or just tell us all about it. Let’s see lots of Halloween artistic representation this week!

As always, the weekly themes are just a suggestion. We encourage you to post or shoot photos of your Shave Gear of the Day regardless of the theme as sticking with the theme is NOT mandatory but encouraged.

Let’s see your Halloween themed pics/posts! And the Scarier the better!

This is the second shave with the Mergress SL and PolSilver Super Iridium blade. Today's brush is a favorite of mine: a Paladin El Dorado. This is the third shave with the Monsavon shaving soap. So far I have used two badger brushes and one synthetic brush, and none have made plentiful lather. Today I spent at least one minute loading the Paladin brush and the lather once again was thin. I will try another synthetic brush tomorrow and see how that works. I was able to get a decent shave notwithstanding the inferior lather. I had to load the brush again before doing the last pass. I used Monsovan soap years ago and got a good lather then. I guess this is my tick without a treat! However, this soap has not aged well. Have a great day, folks.

MMMonday, OCtober 27th, 2024. Not sure why Closed comb razor are not mentioned for OCtober month theme, they are stronger and do exactly what a open comb should & usually are much smoother to the skin with ASR razors IMO + I have a lot of them also!

Razor : Star Bar #4 lather catcher. Mfg 1919-20, mild to tame mid range. The best razor I own with a reasonably fresh coated Gem blade to get a close comfortable stellar shave consistently. Star brand mastered this razor for that time period and proud I own one.
Blade : Gem Personna SS PTFE (2). Very sharp, excellent longevity, smooth out nicely, predictable + safest blade to handle.
Soap : Mitchell's wool fat, very mild scent with excellent lather qualities. First time using the puck like a stick application soap and results where excellent for first pass with rich thick lather.
Brush : Yaqi" Moka Express" 24 mm synthetic. Very gentle brush to work the face with excellent results for lathering.
Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area.
Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups.
Post shave : Pinaud Clubman with witch hazel + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless).
Results : Dial 10 stellar.jpg or CCS,DFS,BBs + no irritation + no weepers=:a17: Had a close comfortable shave this morning with my Star bar #4 with a Gem coated blade. To bad not every shave was like this, will take it when it comes with joy!

The Druid's Grove, Samhain Eve
Shave of the Night
10/28/2024

The air crackled with a chill unseen in the warmer months. A mist, heavy with the scent of decaying leaves and damp earth, clung to the ancient oaks. Beneath the skeletal branches, a lone figure knelt before a gnarled tree trunk, its bark etched with the symbols of forgotten gods. This was the eve of Samhain, when the veil between worlds thinned, and spirits roamed freely among the living.

The Druid, cloaked in roughspun wool the color of twilight, prepared for the sacred ritual. He laid out his tools upon a weathered wooden calendar, each object imbued with the spirit of the old ways. A granite bowl, hewn from the earth itself, held the Samhain soap, its scent a blend of sacred herbs and forest loam. Beside it rested a Yaqi Bohemia razor, its intricate design echoing the swirling patterns of Celtic knotwork. In its gleaming blade, the Druid saw the reflection of a Treet Black Beauty, a sliver of midnight forged in a time when iron was magic.

He dipped the Black Anvil brush, crafted from ancient Irish bog oak and bound with intricate Mammen knotwork, into the bowl, swirling it until a thick lather formed. As he raised the razor to his face, the wind whispered through the trees, carrying with it the murmurs of unseen spirits.

The Druid paused, his gaze drawn to a glint of moonlight on the forest floor. There, nestled amongst the fallen leaves, lay a seax, not only a practical tool and weapon but also a symbol of status and spiritual significance. Beside it, a bracelet of iron adorned with symbols of protection. Those seeking guidance or safe passage through the night left these offerings.

With a reverent touch, the Druid gathered the gifts and placed them upon the calendar. He completed his shave, the cool air invigorating his skin. As he rinsed the blade, he felt a sense of connection to the ancestors, to the ancient spirits who walked this night.

The veil was thin, the boundary between worlds blurred. But in this sacred grove, under the watchful eyes of the old gods, the Druid found peace. He was a guardian of tradition, a keeper of the flame, ensuring that the spirit of Samhain would endure even as the world around him changed.

Razor: Yaqi Bohemia
Blade: Treet Carbon (Black Beauty)
Brush: Black Anvil Daingean Boti Foregoer knot
Bowl: Scottish granite bowl
Soap: PAA Blue Samhain
Balm: PAA Blue Samhain Star Jelly
Other: Druid Awen tree, Druid calendar, Celtic Seax, and a Celtic Ruinic bracelet. The blue used is #1974D2, a vivid, slightly greenish-blue, reminiscent of the color produced by Woad, the plant most commonly used by the Celts for blue dye. It's a vibrant and striking color, often described as "Celtic Blue." The green used is #009A49. This particular shade is often called "Irish Green" or "Shamrock Green. " It's widely used to represent Ireland in various contexts, from sports jerseys to tourism brochures.
