Something to Say

I’ve bought a bunch of razors in the hopes that I wouldn’t have to even shave I think and that the hair would just vanish or something. Eventually I answered your question and would say incrementally at best. It’s just shaving, so if the razor works for you and you aren’t a collector I’d recommend using what you have. But this is badger and blade so trying all the things is a great plan b.
I appreciate your perspective. Shaving is becoming a bit of a ritual for me so I can see down the road me wanting to improve the experience. I think another analogy is making coffee: some say it's just coffee but for others it's venerable or even sanctimonious. I used to drink the cheapest coffee with powdered creamer until I had a really good cup of coffee. Then over the years I've fine tuned my personal tastes in coffee which is a small investment in machinery.

So, I think the lucky ones are those that are simply content with the basics of shaving and feel no need to change things or have found their end game razor and paraphernalia combo. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I wasn't expecting to contemplate your post as much as I did but it's good to go through the process of evaluating why I'm a fan of the shave right now.

I'm glad that this forum exists so I'm able to communicate with people around the world! And kudos to everyone on the shaving spectrum.

@Iridian, yes, I like that: a journey. A Tatara Muramasa in the next year or so might be in the rotation. I'll post if it happens.

Just an update if this may help someone. I pursued incremental improvement with the Game Changer so I bought an 84 plate from a forum member and have used it for a couple months. It definitely improved the closeness/efficiency without being overly aggressive (paired with a Kai blade).

I then ordered the 1.05 plate directly from ItalianBarber and have used it for a couple weeks. This is supposed to be the most aggressive razor in the Razorock offerings. I still don't find it to be overly aggressive but it did incrementally increase the efficiency of my shave. I feel it is less irritating as fewer passes and buffing means less blade time on my face.

I'm too inexperienced to really place this on an aggressive scale but the 1.05 plate to me felt more of a 6.5 out of 10 even with the Kai blaide being wider (10 being most aggressive).

I did purchase a Tatara Nodachi open comb recently from another forum member which I do find aggressive (but very efficient). But this is for a different thread and review.

Welcome, and great observations! You won't find a more knowledgeable, helpful, and generally all-around great group of folks than those contained in the pages herein (and with multiple interests aside from shaving). Looking forward to your own contributions!
