The Simpson Colonel X2L Best is here!
Last week I placed an order at Vulfix, after a pleasant phone call with Brett, whom I immediately want to thank for his help and courtesy. I simply wanted to add another great brush to my collection. This brush had to respond to 5 requirements:

1. It had to be a Simpson. I’m a huge, huge, huge Simpson fan and I honestly believe that Simpsons are great, fantastic, outstanding brushes. Or, to be more precise, I truly think that they are the very best shaving brushes in the World.

2. It had to be in Best badger hair. As confirmed by both Brett (Vulfix-Simpson General Manager) and Mark (Vulfix-Simpson Managing Director), the current Best hair grade is of exceptional quality: soft tips, great backbone and nice scrubby feeling on the skin. I can personally confirm, since my Duke 3 Best is a soft brush, with an excellent backbone and also a densely filled knot, that allows it to work wonderfully with both soaps and creams (the Duke 3 Best is also my absolute favourite shaving brush, of them all).

3. It had to have a knot diameter of 22/23 mm, filled with good density. This knot diameter size is my favourite: not too big, not too small. Simply perfect.

4. It had to have a nice looking, large handle. Just like my beloved Duke, it had to be a brush with a beautiful, comfortable handle, easy to keep in the hand.

5. It had to be reasonably priced. I was looking for a high quality brush at an affordable cost.

The Colonel X2L Best responded to all these points, therefore I pulled the trigger on this gorgeous model. Here are some pics of my new shaving brush. But before looking at them, my soldiers, stand up and salute the Colonel!

If I get another Simpson's this brush is at the top of that list. Absolutely love the handle on this one and the price is very reasonable as well. Great looking brush Marco!

Where could I get a proper stand for this? I'm looking for the cheapest one, nothing fancy, and am not sure how to make sure the opening is too large or small to hold the brush. In other words, what specifications should I look for in the stand?

I do know it should be at least 100mm tall since that is the brush's height, correct?

Thanks, going the straight blade route and appreciate all the help the forum has given to me!

Bought my X2L from Bullgoose and asked for a stand that fitted. Got it from him, but don't know the size specifications. Will check when I get home if you want.

Marco, it's a good brush. I have the colonel in Super 2-band and I think it's one of the best 23mm knots out there. Unfortunately mine is never used along with the fabulous tulip T2 or the wonderful PJ2 since I've moved on to the larger knots...if you like the smaller guys, there's nothing better out there. That handle is wonderful to hold and you really need to try it before you can appreciate the difference a good handle can make when face lathering.

Marco, do I understand that you got yours directly from Vulfix? The knot on yours looks considerably better than the knot on mine; mine has a distinct bullet shape to it. How does one get in contact with Vulfix? Is there a website for ordering Simpson's direct?

Handsome brush, and a very nicely shaped handle! I only have one Simpson, in best. But I know I need more ...

I got one of these a couple of weeks back from John/Christine at West Coast Shaving. I agree it is a great brush and a really attractive and comfortable handle. It is one of the favorites in my rotation.

The first one that got shipped to me was apparently stolen off my porch while I was away for the weekend. When I ordered another and explained to John and Christine, they refunded my purchase price. Definitely a great brush and a great vendor.

Thanks for the post! I've been looking at the X2L for awhile besides requirement #1 since I don't own a Simpson brush your other requirements are what I also look for in a brush!

Marco, I too share your enthusiasm for this brush. It is just wonderful. I must confess, that I put an "O" ring on it for that extra, extra stiff backbone which I am now dependent on. The tips are very soft and I look forward to using it every week. Here is a pic of mine. Congratulations on your purchase and thank you for another fabulous thread.

Joe, I know that you are a great fan of the Colonel X2L Best and was expecting your post at my thread. One of the actual reasons that pushed me towards the purchase of this brush was YOUR enthusiasm. Thank you. The Colonel X2L is truly a fantastic brush.
