Softening an old Arko shave stick

I have an old, hard Arko shave stick that I want to press into a mug. How do I (can I) go about softening it to make it malleable. I've never tried it before, so any info would be appreciated.

I grate it with a cheese grater and mash down as much as I can. After a couple uses and it softens up a little mash it down some more.

Personally, I've just smashed the sticks down.
GeoFatBoy has a video on YouTube detailing this:

...but this one IS cracked.
If you get a good sunny day just pop the stick in a suitable metal container outside

And leave it there

I cheese grated it and pressed it into a mug as well. Added a little water afterwards.

The next day, it looked like it had been manufactured that way.

Put the shave stick in your pocket. Use the warmth from your hands inside your pocket and the stick will be malleable probably in minutes. I would say grating is a huge waste of time and the only reason to do that would be to mix the soap with something else.

A technique I used to fit a slightly undersized puck of VDH Luxury soap to an Old Spice mug. Heat the water to a slight boil. I imagine that with Arko you'd still have to grate it down, but you might be able to just cut it down into four pieces and let the heat do the rest.

Naturally, the mug would need to be ceramic or milk glass, not plastic!

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I tried warming it up in my pocket, no luck, it didn't soften up at all. So I grated it, wet my hands with warm water, and packed it in the mug. It packed in pretty tight, I think after a couple of uses it will be just fine.

I tried warming it up in my pocket and my girlfriend said "Is that an Arko in your pocket or are you just glad to see me!"
Lady, honesty compels me to admit I have Arko in my pocket. But...on the off-chance you are in the mood to "think of England", then arrangements can be made.

Arko is malleable as is. I recently turned a stick into a puck by slicing up the stick into 8-10 pieces and pressing them together in my container. The body heat from your hands softens it. By slicing you can speed up the process.

As noted above don't microwave a tallow based soap.
