soap

hi all
anyone on the forum use aleppo soap
made from olive oil and laurel.
been around for hundreds of years .:001_smile

Stay away from aleppo soap. FIrst of all, it's a sodium olivate soap, so would be woefully inadequate as a shaving lathering soap. Secondly, it is a] made with a high percentage of laurel oil (up to 40%, see http://www.historische-aleppo-seife.de/engl_story.html) -- which is forbidden as a cosmetic ingredient in the EU. A soap with 40% laurel oils would be an extremely irritating soap. b] it is claimed that aleppo soap has to 'ripen' for up to 6 months in the sun in the open air. This basically means that what you get is a soap that has gone off, with rancid fatty acids and most likely bacterial growths and moulds.

its has been used for hundreds of years .

The problem with this soap, as I see it, is that it is made by the followers of Ceiling Cat. That is a major problem for me.
