What's new

So. Schick repeating magazine razors. Can you refill 'em with modern dispensers?

I scored one of these over the weekend. I'm not really into injectors, but I've always loved this one. I love the Art Deco styling, specifically. Does anyone know if they can somehow be refilled via the modern injector cartridges you can get at Walgreens and the like? Thanks in advance!

These are great razors and you can refill the blades with the modern ones.

Right now I am using the Schick chinese blades and they work great. It appears to me that the mag can be reloaded pretty easily.

If you jump over to the single edge razor forum you will find TONS of info.

Let me do just that! I've gotta remember that there's an SE forum now... Oh, and feel free to move my thread or delete it, mods. I do see now that there's a wealth of information on the SE forum for this razor. My apologies!

Well, that depends. Are you talking about one of the early models that the blades are stored inside the handle and fed by rotating the frame 90 degrees so that it lines up with the opening the blade is fed from the handle? If so, then no, there isn't a way to load those models with the modern dispenser, but you can manually load a blade into it.

If you're talking about the ones made after 1935 in which you insert the key that is on the dispenser and then inject the blade then yes, they use the modern dispensers. A picture of what you have would be very helpful.

And one more thing, you'll likely not find injector blades at any of the chain drugstores like Walgreens, Rite Aid etc. Personna stopped supplying retail stores with injector blades a couple years ago, and none of them have carried Schicks for awhile. You can find Schick blades at independent and mom and pop type stores.

Looks just like yours, Alex, but it has a chunkier head and different styling on the handle. The patent date is something like May 16, 1926. I don't recall off the top of my head. At any rate, if I can't refill it and actually shave with it, I'll probably let it go. I don't like it enough to have it taking up space and not being useful as an actual shaving tool. Thanks all.

I assume it's like this one:

You can get the magazine to work if it's not stuck or broken, but that can be tricky and time-consuming. The best way that I've found to load these is to do it by hand (carefully!) using a pair of small needle-nosed pliers. It takes a little practice, but it's much easier if you pull the old blade out partially, then insert the new one behind it. The only issue that I foresee is if the blade holder is a little sprung and it will not hold the blade tightly. But most of them are OK.

BTW, don't take pliers (like I did) and try to pull out the little thing sticking out of the top of the handle. It may look like a stuck blade, but it's actually the piece of the loading mechanism that pushes the new blade out into the head.
