What's new

so I shaved with a Mach3 ...

Now I know why I love DE shaving! It was not as close a shave by a mile even after a couple of passes. Sure it was a quick shave, but missing was the manly ritual... the joy of building lather... the sense of being alive when the DE razor makes way, and in place was a mediocre shave that will get me through half a day. Missing was the moment when that cold splash of water hits the face followed by aftershave. we live too fast these days. We need to take time and enjoy the little things in life.

I haven't turned back to my Fusion yet to see how big the difference is. Haha I can't either cause I threw away my goo and fusion 2 weeks after starting wetshaving

Good man!!

Don't even think about it. You're miles better off now because of it.

You hit the nail square on the head!

I think I still have my Mach3 somewhere but I haven't used it since I took up the DE. From what I remember of using it, I'm certain there's no way I could get as good a shave with it, even using the nice soaps and creams. The blades are just too blunt. No wonder I had to scrub away at my face for so long when I was using it.

I hate to be a downer, but I have to asek, "What prevented you from enjoying "building lather?" Why would you dispense with "that cold splash of water" and aftershave, following your shave? Just because you used a Mach 3 you were not forced to hurry through your shave. It is possible to enjoy the process just as much with any razor as with any other.

Your post suggests that something essential to the shaving experience has been lost simply because you used a different shaving instrument. I maintain that it is attitude more than equipment that ensures a good shaving experience.

I wonder if the owners of the original Gillette razor thought as badly of the those who bought the Gillette New razor. Were they as dismissive of the "obviously inferior design" of that "newfangled" instrument of the devil? After all, Gillette probably introduced the New just to sell more razors and make more profit off gullible unsuspecting dupes!

I agree with you to a point, but even when I went into a shave with my fusion using all my newly acquired skills and positive thinking, I still had a terrible shave.

I like your way of thinking.

my apologies. I left out I shaved in the while shower with hot water. I used a quick lather I made while showering as well. not the same experience by a long shot.

While I understand the satisfaction of a good DE shave, I also see the need to keep a Mach3 in the stable. Some days I simply don't have time (or really much interest) in the shaving ritual. Basically, some days it's just viewed as a chore and needs to be done quickly so I can move on with life in general. Yep, shaving with a vintage Gillette DE safety razor is nice but some days I've gotta get with the program. Canned goo and Mach3. Makes me appreciate a good DE shave all the more.

I gave mine to my girlfriend to shave her legs so she wouldn't have to use those awful disposable razors.

I just hope she won't leave me for her new vibrating toy....

I had a real rush on yesterday and only had 5 mins to shower and shave so i turned to a 3 blade cartridge and some gel, horrible.

Touching on what a couple of other people have said, it's not really fair to compare cartridge and gel/canned foam to DE and a good soap or cream. No experience with the Mach 3, but just using soap and brush with my Atra improved things enormously. Using a DE, SE, or injector made it even better, of course.

If I just need to shave quickly, I've found that I can go as fast with an injector as I can with a cartridge razor, but I still have some cartridges around if I choose to use them. No more canned gel or cream though.
