The Tech is labeled "Marcas Regs" so I presume made in South America. L-dated, so I presume 1941? In great shape though, no plate loss and looks like it was barely used.

The one on the right - what is it? It says "Made in USA" but I don't see a date code. There is some plate loss on the head, and needs some TLC (read: scrubbing bubbles) but otherwise in nice shape.
EDIT: Looks like it is a "Thick Handle Gillette Tech." Cool.

LEFT - L code = 1966 . . . razors weren't coded in 41, just blades.

RIGHT - 1939 - '50 Fat Handle Tech - no date code used until '51. This one probably shaves like a dream!!

If the guard slots are triangle shaped, it would be '39 - '45. If rectangular, '46 - '50.

The left on is a ball end handle Tech from 1966, the right one looks like a fat handle Tech from 1938-1945. Here you can see some examples of Tech razors.

Some feel the earlier ones (triangle slots) are slightly more aggressive . . . but it is a matter of inches not miles. I like the feel and balance of the fat handle. Try swapping heads and handles and see if you feel a difference. They will interchange.

If you look on the guard plate (the middle piece that clamps between the handle and top cap) there will be four cutout slots. They will have either a rounded rectangle shape or a rounded triangle shape. Check out the link that Mr. Razor included in his post above - illustrates this perfectly!


All Tech razors are regarded as mild shavers, and are a great place for a novice wetshaver to start. Some people really like them best when used with the "sharper" blades like Feather.

They're rounded rectangular, so I guess this is one of the later models.

I may have to give them a try with a sharp blade after I clean it. I just "graduated" to an open comb (Gillette New) and it may be hard for me to go back

Used my '59 ball-end Tech tonight & got a nice comfortable shave. My Tech and SS are two of my most frequently used.
