Smith and Wesson Tactical Pens

Yeah I know "tactical" pens...what next??

I however like kubotans as a SD weapon and loved the looks and price of the Smith and Wesson Tactical Pen with the screw on top

It is just around and inch longer than the kubotan I used to carry plus it is also a writing instrument made of aircraft aluminum.

Only thing that worries me about it is the point which actually looks more like the end of a lance or 3-D arrowhead rather than the blunted end of a normal kubotan.

In self defense it MIGHT actually function more like a prison shank than a typical kubotan.
The Benchmade Tactical Pen is exactly the same with the pointy end.

Anyone else carry a similar item?

I carry a Fisher Bullet Pen, with a blue fine-point refill. It rides nicely in my shirt pocket at work, and disappears in my pants pocket when I want to look a little classier. I never leave home without it, nor the Moleskine Cahier notebook that goes in my left-pants pocket.

I never considered using it as a weapon ... but then again, isn't the pen mightier than the sword?

Pens are notorious for becoming makeshift shanks even a standard Bic can do alot of damage when aimed at the throat but they break and bend too easily.

A good metal pen is as useful as a small push dagger on your person and can be carried where a knife or gun can't go.

The Smith and Wesson I bought is marketed to act as a pocket stick for blunt trauma.....BUT the end looks more like a shank to me.
I don't plan on smacking anyone with it to find out unless its no other option.

As the saying goes, "the pen is mightier than the sword." Indeed, Cold Steel makes some mighty strong swords, but this little pen makes for some clever competition. It's the biggest, baddest, permanent marker around!

Superficially, it shares many features common to most markers, but appearances can be deceptive. For starters, it's made from high impact plastic and features walls that are 4 times thicker than similar markers. This means it's built for impact and, in a self-defense emergency it can become an efficient Yawara stick for driving off an attacker. Plus, the screw-top cap will stay in place and won't pop off like a regular marker's cap would when you strike a percussion blow, or when obtaining joint locks or submission holds.

It's easy to carry too. Just clip it to a shirt or coat pocket, or carry in your purse, pack or brief case. Don't spend another day without one!

I was in 1.5 fights last week (something in the NYC air I guess) and I would never carry anything like that.

I am however a fan of the take off glasses, hand them to your lady friend, deck would be attacker with a solid hook, run like hell maneuver TM.

At gun shows I always watch the cold steel info-tv thing. They have some steven seagal/comic book guy from simpsons man slicing various cuts of pig into mangled stew chunks. It is fascinating, creepy, and so wholesomely sadistic that I can't turn away...

I beleive that steven seagal/comic book guy is the owner/founder of the company!

roll of quarters in the fist does nicely. borderline inconspicuous, but functional (is that a roll of quarters in your pocket?)

I carry a Cross Pen and I got trained by the PD in what is called last ditch officer survial training. The section I got was use of the Cross pen They showed some nasty pics of what can be done with a pen.

I carry either a 1911 (.45 caliber) or a .38 at all times. I feel much safer with those than with a pen. lol

I also carry a Kershaw "tactical" blade knife, and have a couple years of gracie jiu-jitsu under my belt. I'm not Jason Bourne enough to carry a tactical pen for self defense.
