Slim Twist

Found a 1960´s Slim Twist at my mothers house today. It´s in pretty good shape but it is just the razor, no box. Have not tried it yet (I am i the process of cleaning it up at the moment). Has anybody tried a Slim Twist? Would be grateful for any info on this razor. I also wonder if I can clean it in the dishwasher without damaging the handle.

Had a first shave with the Slim this morning and I must say it was a pleasant experience! It is my first vintage razor as I am still a newbie to DE shaving. Up til now I have used a Wilkinson Classic that compared to the Slim is not a good razor at all for me. I loaded the Slim with a Wilkinson blade as I don´t want to change to many variables at the same time. I have been using those in the classic. I particularly appreciated the weight of the razors head and the fact that it is made of steel, not plastic like the classic. The classic is way too light, and that makes applying pressure unavoidable. It will be interesting to see how the Slim operates with other blades.

I cleaned it by letting it soak in water with some bathroom cleaner in it, and then boiled the steel parts for about ten minutes. Did not dare to try the dishwasher. I do not want to ruin the handle as it is in good shape.

Well done! My first "real" razor also.

Apologies for hijacking this thread...but what would be a reasonable price for one of these? Have been offered one by a colleague, it's his dad's, it's in ok condition mechanically but there's a split in the handle. Can that be fixed?

I don't know if the handle is fixable, but there's a 1/2 long shank that extends into the plastic handle.
So the razor head can be attached to a new handle.

Thanks for the info Bob. Handle fell off as soon as I washed it! Think it was only held on with 40 years of gunk!! :scared: Head's cleaned up nicely. I'll try a spot of epoxy inside the handle. If that doesn't hold I'll probably be contacting you for one of your beautiful handles! :001_smile
