Slanthammer too aggressive?

I have been shaving with the Slanthammer for about 3 months now and it seems to be too aggressive for me. As I was reading here it seems that shaving nirvana was found by many with this razor but it seems too harsh on my face. I have used both Feathers (way too harsh) and Derby's which after 3 passes my face feels pretty burnt. Any suggestions as to what might make this razor kinder to my face? I have an open comb and can go 5 passes with no irritation so I can't figure it out.

Some have found the Slanthammer to be their perfect razor. Others(the majority) probably only use it in their rotation(as I do) because of its aggressiveness.

If you are going to use it on a regular basis, I would suggest using a blade that's sharp(close tot he Feather) but smoother. You basically are using the 2 extremes of the blade world currently. Most blades after 5 passes will leave razor burn in their wake.

Have you tried a sampler pack to find out the blade that works best for your face? this may be the way to go first. Then, using it in the Slanthammer will tell you if you are getting the shaves you want or is it time to try another blade.

The Slanthammer is an aggressive razor-if not the most, it's @ the top of the lists. As you have already stated, the Feather did not work due to being to harsh. Try a Gillette 7 O'Clock SharEdge(yellow) or a Super Iridium which are much smoother(even the Swedish Gillettes- if you can find some).

You can also go with a blade that is a level down in sharpness- A Red Pack Personna, an Astra Superior Platinum, or an Israeli Platinum. Sometimes a less agressive blade works well in combo w/ an aggressive razor. (With all those different blades mentioned, it brings you right back to a blade sampler pack).

Right on. Plus the idea about using it in rotation will help (at least until your face gets used to it). Personally I didn't like it at all and prefer the HD slant.
