Skin irritation ouch!!

Ive been wet shaving for about a month a I have a few questions. When I finish shaving I feel great, but an hour or so later I see red bumps on my neck. I have changed creams and everything still no help.
Also I ride a motorcycle and I shave in the morning then ride. My helmet strap irrritates the crap out of me. Please give some advise.

I need a little more info. What kind of shaving do you do? Straights, DE, carts?

What kind of shave prep do you do? Aftershave? Have you changed anything besides the lather? It could be something in the soap.

Use a merkur hd de razor w/ merkur blade, just switched to poraso with I like from the grooming lounge beard destroyer. I started shaving at night after shower now in am. Not much preshave just wettting face. Then after I shave I use wh then grooming lounge after shave balm.

Its not the razor. Try changing the AS balm. It could also be the weather making you sweat there on the neck, the itching occurs where the skin folds. Also, are you a synthetic brush?

Use a best badger brush not synthetic. Also I do 3 passes 1 wg, 1 xg, then against. Ill try not using the balm and just wh. I live in so. Maryland so its hazy, hot, and humid in summer. My skin always stays pretty oily so I may be overdoing it with moisture. What about when I ride my motorcycle helmet?

Two suggestions:

1) Be very mindful of how much pressure you are using. Never apply too much pressure. If you need to switch angles, add more lather or do another pass, then do so. But never be tempted to increase your pressure. This one alone solves most irritation problems.

2) Use good pre/post face prep. If you don't shave immediately after a hot shower, spend a couple of minutes applying very warm water to your face with a soaked rag. Be careful though...get it too hot and it might irritate your skin. Afterwards, apply water as cold as you can get it by either splashing or with a rag. This closes your pores, which is important if you will be wearing a strap against your skin.

Best of luck!
Todd
