Simpson's Milk Churn

Has anyone used this brush? I have only seen it on one website , so it must be new or an uncommon brush. It is shaped like a milk churn you would see at a dairy. I think it is a really cool looking brush.

Yes I have a Milk Churn 2 and there are other members as well. Beginish comes to mind as another that has a Milk Churn.

I find this brush to be a great little brush. It's fun to look at, but it works great as well. Not extremely dense, but enough to have enough backbone, and the tips feel different from other Simpson Best brushes I have, but that's a bit of a long story. It's definitely a brush I would love to learn more about.

Here's a picture of my brush. Notice a difference between the two? The Milk Churn you posted looks skinnier than mine. Mine is wider at the bottom and slightly tapers to the top, plus the MC 2. I've asked Vulfix about this myself and they said years ago while it was still directly Simpson they produced 2 variations of the Milk Churn, but asking vendors about this brush things just aren't meshing.

I was told by one that during over 10+ years there has only been one Milk Churn ever. The vendor you chose shows an actual picture of the brush now. Too many vendors use the stock Somerset images. Also my brush is engraved like Vulfix does now and not like Simpson did before being acquired. Maybe I'm missing something somewhere. It just doesn't add up to me.

But despite my curiosity as to this it's a great brush and I enjoy it immensely! :thumbup1:

Yes, it's a very good brush. It is a bit more floppy than the other Simpsons I have used, but it gives a great lather with no problem. In fact it bowl lathered MWF without breaking a sweat. The handle is very unique, and I like the feel in hand.

But it is well known Tulips appear wherever there is a Milk Churn! :biggrin1:

I have one on the way. I am anxious to try it.

Its one of those designs that has a bit of history and which would make me smile each morning I saw it in the cabinet.

I have a Milk Churn and love it. It's the first 'real' brush I bought a couple years ago. I've since bought and sold many brushes, and still have about a dozen (most Rooney Heritages, Simpson CH3, PL10 2-band, Rooney Finest 2/1). They're nice too, but I use the Milk Churn about 90% of the time these days. For me it's perfect, not too dense, just enough backbone but not floppy. Plus it's easy to rinse out a dry quick, and doesn't hog the lather. Great comfortable handle and just gets the job done.
I've never seen one that has the 'Milk Churn' spelled out engraved like in top pic, that's interesting. I've also never seen 'MC 2'. Mine just says 'MC' and seems to be somewhere between the 2 shapes. Mine's about 3 years old so is from original Simpsons and has the lamp black vs engraving.
Enjoy your Milk Churn! Great to see them discussed here, don't hear much about this great model.

:drool::drool: Thank you for the pic i_shaved_something! Really been wanting to see a Somerset Milk Churn and now I have, and it's great! It looks very close to the Milk Churn 2 I have, but I do see a bit of a combo of the two. The hair on yours while more used looks like that of my Milk Churn. I'll still hold out hope to see a Somerset Milk Churn 2, or maybe if I get lucky I can find one around my area. Would be awesome if I could!

Thanks, no problem on pics, I'll answer any questions you have. Where did you get a MC 2? I didn't know it was even offered, just thought there was the 'Milk Churn' and that's it, I've never seen it offered in different sizes, and wasn't when I purchased mine.
Also, around the same time I picked up a Simpson Keyhole that I still have, also great brush. I don't like the handle for everday use like I do the MC, but it basically has the same knot and performance and also a great brush. I keep meaning to use that more in my rotation but just keep going back to the MC, ha. :001_smile

Ah I also like the Key Hole as well! What size? The Key Hole is on the list of brushes to get someday as well. I have a little Key Hole Rudy Vey made for me that is fun to use, but I don't care much for the grade of hair.

I picked up my MC2 from Fendrihan a few months back. I was asking all the vendors about what they had and I came across them and they were specifically advertising the Milk Churn 2 and I made sure on it and they said it was all correct and so I ordered it. Soon after someone ordered the only other one.

Emsplace actually has some of the Milk Churn 2's, but I never asked how many. I had a thought that maybe she wouldn't have gotten through her stock of Somerset Milk Churns very quickly and maybe had some left so I sent an e-mail to see if there were any Somersets left, but none, but she did say the ones she has are like the one I have and she had never seen any different size either.

Such a unique shape...I keep coming back to look at these...the keyhole is another one that I find quite attractive...

Great pictures Joe; thanks as I rarely see the milks and always see the tulips. It is nice to see the side by side comparison. Doug

Thank you for all the input , fellows !! I have decided that the Milk Churn will be my next brush and after that , the Tulip !! My only Simpsons brush in possession now is the Wee Scott and I use it 95% of the time. I also have a Rooney and Vulfix 374 that I use on occassion , but there is something special about a Simpsons to me.

Agreed Andy. The issue in my case is the size since I'm fast moving away from smaller brushes, just have way too much fun with the larger knots and I don't believe either of the two are made in a 24mm+ size?

Mine's definitely not 24mm+ I know that, nor any of the specs I've read put them in that area. Mine is very close to 22mm in size, but it does have a good bloom and feels a bit larger than a 22.
