Simpsons in pure- are they nice?

I have Simpsons badgers in super, best and 2 bands. Now, I have been contemplating to have the next one in pure. I have zero experience in that grading. Can anyone comment the pure line please?

No replies? I take that as a silent- stay away and stick with some nice boars instead.

it's saturday morning here in N/A and it's only been 2hrs...i'd give it some time before you disregard them.

i've looked at the Eagle in Pure many times, so am interested in hearing the thoughts of some of the members who have them.

I have a small Special in Pure and for me it's a lovely brush. The tips are (obviously) on the scratchy side and give a nice exfoliating feeling while lathering on face. I clearly prefer the Best and Super 3 band, but the Pure is not a bad choice at all.

I've had my fair share of cheap pure badgers. During the summer in S. California, it gets pretty warm and I have oily skin and I like an exfoliating brush due to this. I love the extra scritch of a pure. I've had my Simpson Special in pure (very cheap deal) and I love it. The backbone is really stiff (what you would expect from Simpsons)and with time it's broken in nicely and is great with soaps. This is probably one of the best pure badgers in the market.

I've got one Simpson in pure, it's the least loved one. For me it feels too scratchy. The Supers I think to be on the soft side. Personally I prefer the Best grade: firm, not too rough, not too soft, just perfect for my skin. But of course YMMV. It would be nice though to have one to compare with. But I would not go over the top on the investment. Just my 2 p.

I bought a Duke 1 in Pure a year ago. Tried the little beast out of the box, and after using it for the first time (three passes, face lathering) I had an awful razor burn (better: awful brush burn). It is way more exfoliating and much more scritchy and abrasive than Simpsons best! Was much too much! So I decided to treat the little monster with soap on sandpaper. Lathered the rather fine sandpaper for almost half an hour. After that drastic treatment it turned out to be a wonderful brush! Lots of backbone, very good in exfoliating, but not so beasty any longer.

I have a Duke 1 in Best too, I couldn't tell which one is better. They are very different, but I like them both and I'm happy to have the Duke in Pure also.

This is what I would hoped of reading:) I like the scratchy side- the Supers are just to darn soft. The best are- well the best I think. Of course there is much more to it. The knots etc. Can someone possible compare a boar to a pure or is it just a silly question altogheter?

Boar after its broken in is less scritchy than pure with more backbone. Between best, boar, and pure, pure is my least favorite brush. But obviously that's a purely subjective judgement. Some people like it. If it comes from simpson it will be a good quality brush and then it will be just a mater of whether it fits your face.

I have the spcl in best and pure and like them both about the same. I wish they made one right in between the two, that (for me) would be the perfect brush! I am starting to like them about equal to my Tweezerman. If the Tweezerman had a nicer handle it would make the ultimate brush for me.

Well, I think I know where this thread is going already:) (Go figure!!!)
I think I make a dash for one nonetheless. I love the boars of course but the pure grading is haunting me a bit...

I tried a few boars but never found one I like tell a friend sent me an Omega that he broke in by making 50-60 test lathers. i went from having a one brush rotation to a 4 brush rotation.

I had a Simpsons Special (pure) because the price seemed too good to be true. YMMV but I experience some pretty severe brush burn every time I tried to use it.

FWIW - the brush was actually sold to another B&B user in this thread, and he's told me that he really likes it. So there are definitely some "scritch" lovers out there!!

If you're looking for scritch, you won't find a better deal than the "special" pure from WCS!

I have 3 Simpsons in best (Keyhole 1, Major, and Wee Scot) and 2 in pure (Duke 1 and Berkley 46). If I had to chose a favourite, I'd take the Berkley. It's not overly dense, and I enjoy the scritch. As a liker of pure though, I have picked up on many on B&B having no time for the grade.

I have a special in pure, it was my first simpson and the price was great from the bst. I really liked it, but I really didn't appreciate how to use it correctly until I bought my commodore. I was far too timid with it and now I use it as a rotational and my travel brush. I really like it, but it is very different in feel than my best brushes. I won't be selling it any time soon.

Thanks for all replies gents. I kind of getting MORE interested when I read the posts from those that hate the pures. As I said this grading is haunting me:001_smile
I will order one shortly.
