Simpson Persian Jar 3 Two Band

So after sitting at the back of my shelf for a couple of months, my PJ3 made it into the rotation this week. I rarely use any brush more than once in a week but I put this one into service 3-times. I find the PJ handle to be fantastically ergonomic and great to use for either face or bowl (this week it was all face-lathers). The 2-band knot in this brush is close to perfection; dense enough to provide perfect backbone but with incredibly tips soft tips (almost Thater like). While I don't really mind lather hogs (yes, I'm talking about you Mr. Chubby), this one gives up lather easily. In the picture below you can get a sense of the density (PJ on the right) compared to the 2-band Duke3 I bought (and was disappointed with). I have a fair number of brushes and this well-used example is simply one of the best. The knot is 27 X 57 and the handle 57.5 with the overall height 114.5

The knot even looks like a Thater, doesn't it? But I've got Thater on the brain. I thought you haven't had any luck with Simpson 2-band.

No, I've got this PJ and a Tulip3 in two-band that are both excellent brushes, really at the top of the brush-making art. Recent ones I haven't been thrilled with and now look more to the Germans or Lee when shopping for a 2-b.

If this is the brush I sold you a few months ago I hope you are enjoying it. I rarely regret sales, but this is one I regret!

I wonder if I should give my Duke 3 two band company? And if do would I like better PJ 3 or a Polo 8 in two band? What do you guys think??

If the knot size is to your liking, I can't recommend the Tulip 3 2band enough (if you're set on grabbing a Simpsons).

Whoa! That beauty's lofty but she sounds plush. With the exception of the same "LE" Duke 3, which you and I both shared the same disappointment for, my previous Simpson 2 bands where all I cared for, then thanks to you, the Thaters entered into my life and now these Germans make up at east 90% of my ever shrinking collection. I've cut it down to 3 Simspons now, the CH2 and Polo 8 in 3 band Super, which after several attempts are the softest Simpson Supers I come across and a Polo 8 in Manchurian that I hope softens up a tad more otherwise its gotta go.

I went back and forth for a while about bringing back a few Simpson 2 bands in my collection but I'm currently too happy with my 2 and 3 band Thaters to care to pull the trigger or play Russian roulette with Simspons unpredictable hair grade variations. But I'll be the first to admit when you find one of the quality of your PJ3 and Tulip 3, there is good as brush manufacturing gets. Enjoy my friend.

 Ah, yes indeed! It appears we have similar tastes and I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that her lovely visage crosses my mind when my hand wraps around this handle.

For quite a while, each time a new brush arrived in the post, my wife would wait for me to open the package and she was continually disappointed. It took quite a bit of coaxing to find out that she loved the PJ shape and wanted me to order one. I believe that the PJ3 is a perfect size and the 2-Band hair is wonderful.

I had a PJ3 I got off of BST. Great brush. The previous owner had sellers remorse and asked for it back. Being the softy that I am, I sent it back to them. It was a sweet brush and I have been looking for another one since then

Wow, that's a really good looking brush!

What gives with the density on that Duke? Looks like you got half a knot!

This is my kind of brush. Looks fantastic to me. Most Simpson two bands are just two dense for my tastes but I could see having one like this. Who sells them?

That's a beutiful brush. It's notable how much the Simpson knot has changed from a fan to a lightbulb over the last 10-15 years.$PJ2.3.jpg

Besides the variances you regularly find in Simpson brushes, I think the picture they post of the current 3-band Super PJ is very much like your vintages brushes (especially the one on the right in your picture...pre-bloom of course). This is also true of the ones at West Coast Shaving. The 2-bands seem to have a decidedly more bulb type shape.
