Simpson Case, Special, Commodore X1, Berkeley 46... comparisons?

These seem to be the sub $50 Simpson brushes available in Best (other than the tiny wee scot). I'm curious if people with experience with two or more of them can compare them, specifically density and general impressions.

My Special was in pure, so no help in this comparison. I had the X1 briefly, and I expect my Berkeley to arrive tomorrow or Tuesday. From the spec sheet, I'm thinking they are pretty much the same knot. I'll know more in a couple of days. My X1 had the current good batch of best badger. I don't see why my Berkeley wouldn't.

Purchased a Case Best brush couple months ago. Also got the travel tube. It's a fine little brush. Nice density. The case fits perfectly into AOS travel case. However, I have used the brush daily for a couple weeks exclusively at home and it's a treat to use. Between this brush and the one included with AOS travel set, I've enjoyed my daily shaves as much -- some ways more than the regular sized brushes. I don't end up washing excess lather down the drain at end of shave. Very pleased with it. Comes in handy while shaving in our half-bath while main bathroom received remodel including new shower to replace the one in which the floor collapsed due to rotted 45-year old sub floor. That was a hoot !!

I have the Wee, the X1 and the Berkeley 46.......

The Wee is amazing, just incredible how the tiny knot pumps out the lather -- and the knot has the perfect combination of softness and firmness.

My X1 (I love the handle) is a bit smaller than the Berkeley but feels denser than the other two -- it's a bit of a conundrum to me -- lathers up a storm, but the lather seems to have less staying power, gets used up within 3 passes, unlike either the #46 or the Wee. I have been experimenting with loading up more soap/cream, with pretty good results.

The Berkeley is an absolute star -- dense, firm but soft, perfect flow through, tons of lathering horsepower, as many passes as I could ever need.

Instead of being content with the idea that now that I have 3 of the $50 or less Simpsons, I have been eyeing the Case and the Special........*sigh*

I have the Berkeley, just used it yesterday with TOBS Mr. Taylor shave cream. I barely swirled the brush in the SC, face lathered, and discovered I had plenty of lather for three full passes (with quite a bit still left in the brush).

Every time I use it, I'm reminded what a great little brush it is for less than 50 bucks. And if you want to travel with it, you can get a Case travel tube for $5 or so, perfectly sized for a Berkeley, too.
