What's new

Simpson Berkeley 46 arrived today.

I realize that compared to most other Simpson brushes that the Berkeley is pretty understated, simple, and not much of a head turner, but was looking for a badger to mix it up with my stable of boars, that was primarily a face latherer, and wouldn't break the bank, and the Berkeley seemed to fit the bill perfectly. We'll see once I start using it! Just thought it would be nice to post a pic of it!

It's a small brush, no doubt about that, but not miniature. I purposefully wanted a smaller brush because the Semogue boars I have, although are great for bowl lathering, seem to fan out a bit much for face lathering, and wanted something a bit more precise. The handle is a tad smaller in diameter than the handle of my Semogue 830, but not that much smaller. Definitely the shortest loft of all the brushes I own, which will hopefully lend itself to being a better face latherer. I have average size hands and the brush feels just fine. If you have ham hocks or giant sausage fingers you probably would think this brush is too small.

Hey ODJ, great buy and nice pics. I've been debating a Simpson and read a few threads on the Berk and reckon you've got a really nice brush there mate.

Couple more pics post-bloom and review of it's performance could be useful too.

Thanks again!

I got moves like Jagger
The Berkeley is the best all-round brush I have ever owned. Sure, others are denser and others are softer, but for general utilitarian use (i.e. making lather on your face or in a bowl), it produces the same result as brushes 3-4x the cost.

Here's mine post bloom after about 6 uses. Just a great brush for the money. A wonderful face lathering brush. As others have mentioned- not as dense as say a Duke 1 or Case, but it gets the job done and does it very well.

Here it is compared to a post-bloom TGN 22mm 2 band knot. Ignore the bee- funny though I had just re-waxed the handle before taking the picture with yellow beeswax.

The Berk is a great brush. Congrats!

It has a classic shape and a well behaved knot. I expect after a dozen uses, you'll have grown quite attached to it.
