Simplification for a beginner...a 2+ cream rotation

After riding waves of AD and collecting samples and tubes of creams (lather madness!)---I decided to pick a short rotation & stick with with it for awhile while I work on other things.

1. KMF Lime
2. C.O. Bigelow
+ Samples or other cream for a change of pace.

Both of these creams are available locally, work really well for me, and are fairly inexpensive.

I have a puck of Conk's and VDH and an Arko stick---I'll use those if I want a soap or a super lather.

Enough variety & combinations for now...gotta reduce the variables!

My biggest mistake early on was too many variables, especially razors and blades. A year in and creams are the only variable left in my shave routine. I'm down to one razor/blade combo, I've abandoned soaps except for the occasional Tabac, but I still love having a different cream scent to choose from each shave. I generally rotate 3 TOBS, 2 Vintage Blades and Proraso and have just splurged and ordered CF Lime and Lavender. A relatively small number of creams by B&B standards, but enough to keep shaving interesting and enjoyable.

Good idea! Enough variation to keep from becoming bored and also enough consistency so that you can practice your technique without fear.

But soon, after you have perfected your technique, you will start to make a collection... which will slowly get out of hand.... then you just get more!

Excellent idea, I had to do this as well because I was switching around so often I wasn't sure if it was technique or lathering issues whenever I had a poor shave.

Simplifying is certainly a solid plan. Easier said than done though. I for one am constantly tempted by the sample drawer I've hoarded together and the vintage gillette I've amassed. Perfectly happy with one brush though. Go figure.
