What's new

Should I try these old blades?

I acquired these during a recent razor buy.

Is it worth spending the time to try them out, or are they basically just something to admire? I find the black ones interesting.

Is the one at top left really just a pack of 2?

Can these cases be refilled? If so they would be perfect for camping and other road travels.

As for the stainless blades, no reason not to give them a shot. You might want to dip each blade in alcohol right before you use it, just to be on the safe side.

The Schick Deluxe blades (the black ones) might be carbon steel. I shy away from those, but others have tried them with success.

The top left pack is indeed only a pack of two. It more than likely was included with the purchase of a Schick Krona DE razor originally.

Someone posted a thread a long while back on how to refill cases like these, try to do a search for it.

You're a genius - the lady was also selling a Krona DE! No clue what it was at the time so I didn't buy it. Then I read some very mixed reviews so no big deal.

I searched and found it - thanks! Easy to do. But then I learned I can't use my Astras in them because of the glue spots. Oh well, I'll keep them anyway in case I find another favorite blade.

Thanks again for the tips!

I have used both of the blades pictured on the left. I found each to be sharp, smooth and long lasting. I would rate them a top tier blade if produced today. I think that the Personna Super Stainless should be excellent also. I have tried a version of those blades but I am not sure they are the exact blade. You may not find the Schick Deluxe as smooth as a stainless blade, if they are carbon steel blades. They may be coated like the Gillette Super Blue blades. They take some getting used to. If you can tolerate the roughness of the the first pass, subsequnt passes are smoother and in the end you can get a very nice close shave. They are not everyones cup of tea.

Nice find. Enjoy the experience. Please post an update.

Those look pretty old and have obviously been exposed to the elements for a while. If there is any sort of rust on them even in a very minute amount, I would highly advise NOT using them.

Otherwise go for it.

+1

I agree, bin them if they don't look to be in excellent condition.
