Shimming a Feather AS

Has anyone tried putting a shim (S.S. or otherwise) between the base and the blade of a Feather AS.

I love the way this razor looks and feels, but I'm starting to think it really is to mild (even with a Feather or Super Iridium).

I used to shim my Feather stainless because it was too mild for my tastes and actually got up to using four shims to get it to where it would work a little better for me, but it still didn't seem quite right. I'm a purist when it comes to my razors and I want to be able to use them as intended from the factory without adulteration, so I sold my Feather. It's the same philosophy for me as corking blades. If a blade needs to be corked before using, then it's not the right blade for the user, and if a razor needs to be shimmed, it's not the right one either.

I tend to agree, but I really do like the feel of this razor. How much did you shim and how much did it help?

My shims were used DE blades with the sharp edges trimmed off. I started with one then worked up to four, but it didn't feel right. It's possible that that many shims caused the blade to warp slightly making the shave not quite as comfortable as it should have been.

I agree wholeheartedly that the Feather AS is a stunning piece of equipment, and I really didn't want to sell it, but it just wasn't right for me and it deserved to be in the hands of someone who can put it to good use.
