Shavmac Question

Hi guys. Long time lurker, first time poster. I have a Kent blk8 and a Duke 3 in best and was thinking of grabbing a Shavemac 177. That being said, with the Kent being what it is and very soft and luxurious, is there any reason or point on getting the Shavemac? The Duke is my work horse brush and the Kent is the brush I use when I really want to pamper myself. My concern is simply that I don't want to have more than one of the same brush. So would the Shavemac stand out at all compared to the other two?

Thanks for any input

If you're talkin 2 band/d01 it's going to be a lil scritchier and have a bit more backbone than the Kent BK8.I can't speak for the other grades of badger but the 2 band will be different.

+1 Welcome to the forum and good luck with the brushes.

If your looking for a different shaving experience get a two band brush. The hair will be much more different than another three band.

Yes, the 177 will be different from both of those brushes. It's sort of like a Duke 3 with way softer tips and much better flow through. As for the Kent, the tips won't have any prickle like many Kents do. Shavemac Silvertip is worth a try in my opinion and the 177 can be resold easily enough if you don't like/want it.

Be aware you can easily order a custom version from Shavemac at no additional cost. I recently ordered a custom silvertip 22/48. The custom knot/loft really makes for a great brush, being both soft but having substantial backbone. So keep in mind that knot size and loft length are variables you may manipulate.

Even the D01 3 band would be different than what you are using, I would recommend grabbing one at some point. I just picked one up last week and it really impressed me in terms or softness and lather ability.

I had a Shavemac 177 with a 23 mm knot. It was an excellent brush, but did not have any traits that made it stand out. I just stopped reaching for it. So I eventually gave it to someone I converted to traditional wetshaving.
