Shaving while travelling

This is what I’ve been using to put my brushes in after they dry out. Extra tall pill bottle.
I’m also traveling in a couple weeks but will likely check a bag so I should be okay. If we decide not to check a bag and do carry ons then I need a backup plan.

For clarification, will the airline security in Europe or the USA take my D.E. Razor even without a blade in it if I carry it on?
I would not trust that the TSA would not take even an empty DE razor in security. Besides they have the final say so I would not take the chance. Now there are some who will separate the 3 pieces and put them in different places in the luggage and get through that way. I have not tried that. I know I will stick to disposables when only traveling with carry on.

I was tinkering with my ultra light travel kit and I think I’ve improved it. It now has a Henson AL13+ and Muhle synthetic travel brush. There’s an aluminium theme to things. The razor has a built in stand and the blades have a built in blade bank. Soap and balm are DR Harris Arlington though not in their original container. @Legion showed me a hack for making a travel stick out of an old 35mm film canister. You could go for a couple of weeks on this but it would also make sense for quick stops due to the fast drying brush. It was a puzzle to fit it all in but it fits nicely now.

Would you mind sharing the hack to making a travel stick fit into a film container? Great setup by the way 👍 I might do something like this for a checked bag (i might end up checking one).

It’s very simple.
1. Cut a hole in the bottom of the film canister.
2. Drop in a 20 cent coin
3. Pack with grated soap shavings

Done!

Can't speak for Europe but, USA TSA will confiscate it. Blame some whack-job that waved around an empty DE razor on a domestic (USA) flight in a temper tantrum.
It was a utility knife with a blade in it, but DE razors have been caught in the crossfire anyway, even if they are technically still allowed without a blade

I'm not referring to that case but, the idiot in the NorthEast with his DE razor.

Utility Knives were banned long ago.

It was an incident on a Frontier flight in Atlanta last year that caused all the recent rule changes and confusion, can't find what case you're referring to. Officially though, sfety razors without blades are still allowed, but in practice that's not the really the case.

I pack my toiletry kit in my check-in bag and just include disposable razors and canned foam. I've traveled with DEs before, but usually I'm just trying to simplify everything while I'm away from home. Hotels or my mother-in-law's house are not the place for luxurious morning routines for me!

When I do air travel due to work. I always put anything shaving related in checked luggage. I’ve only “lost” my luggage once.
Or I changes planes in Heathrow and didn’t get my luggage. I did get it back a day later. But I used barbersol and and NEX good news knock offs.
But got everything back. Razors, brush, blades and shave sticks. aka 6 months worth.

Leaving next week for Spain and England. Not checking a bag so I ended up picking up these razors. I’m going to miss my DE for a few weeks that’s for sure. I do plan on bringing stuff back so I’ll have to check a bag from Heathrow to Boston but I don’t want to check a bag to Spain then to England. I suppose I could bring a travel brush and stick of soap like @Tomo said.

My bigger problem when traveling is that I end up needing to shave without a three-way mirror. I have a beard, but I shape a curve around the hinges of my jaw, by my ears. With a normal mirror, I can't see back there, so I don't get the curve quite right when I shave.

BIC Metal is my go to disposable.
Second on the Simpson's Tubes - they are fantastic.
Another tube option is from Epsilon, they are more of a clearer plastic tube.

I use a similar tube (can't remember brand), and agree that the single blade Bic Metal is a fine choice. I always take a synthetic brush for traveling and La Toja stick for the small size.

My original tubes were actually shipping containers from a brand of Surface Iron lures that I use for Yellowtail and Tuna fishing.
I got curious one day and found them quite accommodating for brush storage and travel protection.

I used to think I had to figure out how to pack a DE but now I just forget it, grow some stubble and whilst I'm on my trip go and find a hot towel shave at a local barber shop. Always fun and a good way to explore.

I have two travel setups:
1.) DE and canned foam or gel if checking a bag or driving.
2.) Bic disposable and canned foam or gel for carry-on.

I have no desire to bother with a brush when travelling. The canned stuff works fine.
It's simply not worth trying to carry on a DE without a blade, even before that nutjob really ruined it.

I will not sacrifice the quality of my shaves when traveling. I agree with most of what has been said. When traveling I check my bag. I don’t take any shaving supplies I would be unhappy with if something happened to them. Simple. Not having a good quality shave could ruin my day.

This is where something like an EJ89/R89 or Fatip Piccolo along with a cheap brush, bowl, and soap or a great can of gel/foam are a great option for your checked travel bag.

My expensive or rare razors won't end up in some distant land without me because they stay at home or travel by car with me! Even then though, I generally stop at a Muhle Rocca or Edwin Jagger One3Siz razor and mid-grade brush.
