Shaving while travelling

Get yourself a TracII. You can get them very reasonably on Ebay. Then get the carts WITHOUT the lubri snot strip. If you want to go disposable, I find the schick green handled sensitive is one of the best.

Given that the OP is travelling to Cannes then depending on from where he is flying the TSA rules may not be applicable. There will of course be similar rules but they may be more or less stringent than the TSA equivalent. If I were the OP I would work on my disposable technique, if you cannot get a good shave with some kind of Bic, I like the Bic Metal, then I respectfully suggest you are doing something wrong.

There has been a big push where I am from to stop people from drinking & driving, texting and driving. I can’t see how shaving would be any safer, but I never tried it, I guess you never know until you do.

Yep the fixed head single bladed disposable razors is the way to go.

Last summer while recovering from a broken shoulder, I bought the Dorco Pace 6 and found it decent enough for one or two shaves. Better than the bigger name brands I used to use. For me at least.

I'm based in London so no TSA for me but I'm sure the security here is just as bad. I don't mind risking it with a cheap DE razor in case they take it but I don't know how easy it is to find blades locally when I travel.

Yeah it was my first time with a disposable 5 blade in several years. I managed to get a decent enough shave out of it. it was just unpleasant and cumbersome. I'll try the Bic with one blade. I'm in Paris next week and in bologna in three weeks so I'll see how it goes

The Bic Metal is truly a piece to behold. Works like a fine Injector razor and really lasts. I did 20 3pass shaves on medium/heavy growth without a significant drop in performance.

If you want to go a bit upscale there is still the Indian PII Gillette available.

Paired with these excellent Polish cartridges you are good to go.

I once backpacked around Latin America for 8 months and learned how great shaving oils could be. Unfortunately, the one I had on that trip (from Body Shop) was discontinued. I've tried quite a few since then: KoS, AoS, Body Shop and at least one other I can't remember. I found that the only one that works for me is from Pacific Shaving. I can get a great shave with it with my usual DE set-up, and it is thin enough not to clog disposable carts (more than usual) when traveling.

I also have an awesome FS badger travel brush, but it also seems to be discontinued. I bring it when I'm traveling by car or checking luggage and bringing a full DE setup. (This one seems similar)

Thanks for suggestions guys. I used Bic one blade on my trip to Paris. obviously not as good as DE but significant improved over 5 blade disposable

this looks like quite a good solution for brush transportation. Has anyone tried it or something similar ?

I'll have to keep that Bic Metal in mind when I only do carry-on next time.

For my brushes, I almost always wrap them tight in a small towel. Helps with any excess moisture and keeps my dobb kit small.

I’ve put together a few ultra compact travel kits in the past. These included a long stay straight razor kit complete with honing and stropping equipment. These days I prefer something simpler with full size equipment. I never enjoyed the dedicated travel brushes. They’re ok for a couple of days but if I’m going on a longer trip I like to enjoy myself.

Straight razors are better for home use where you are familiar with the surroundings. You never know what kind of sink layout you will get on the road. It’s better to keep everything compact with as few items as possible. I do like to keep my shaving stuff separate from my other toiletries for organisation. Pelican makes some high quality hard shell cases to keep everything secure and protected.

My current travel kit is built around the Blackland Vector. I strongly prefer a real badger brush to a synthetic and I find the Classic 1 is a more practical size than the Wee Scot. I give it a quick blow dry before packing up on the last day and it’s all good. The AC blade container includes a built in blade bank which is handy. You just need to make sure that you take enough blades because they can be difficult to source. Face lathering a shave stick keeps the sink side clutter to a minimum. The whole thing takes up very little counter space. Best of all the shaves are enjoyable. The internal razor case isn’t really necessary but it keeps everything from rattling around.

I used to bring a DE razor and a few blades, but have switched to a BIC Metal. Similar feel as a DE razor, shaves great, lasts and are super cheap. I also pack a soap stick (La Toja or Palmolive) and a small brush. Done.

This is what I’ve been using to put my brushes in after they dry out. Extra tall pill bottle.
I’m also traveling in a couple weeks but will likely check a bag so I should be okay. If we decide not to check a bag and do carry ons then I need a backup plan.

For clarification, will the airline security in Europe or the USA take my D.E. Razor even without a blade in it if I carry it on?

This is probably my smallest DE kit, it has a mirror, razor - in this case a Goodwill, blades, comb, and nail file in a leather wallet. I take a small aftershave and my choice of brush and soap separately.

I was tinkering with my ultra light travel kit and I think I’ve improved it. It now has a Henson AL13+ and Muhle synthetic travel brush. There’s an aluminium theme to things. The razor has a built in stand and the blades have a built in blade bank. Soap and balm are DR Harris Arlington though not in their original container. @Legion showed me a hack for making a travel stick out of an old 35mm film canister. You could go for a couple of weeks on this but it would also make sense for quick stops due to the fast drying brush. It was a puzzle to fit it all in but it fits nicely now.
